Hendo nearly KOs Wand in their first fight

I do recall that very well. I knew Wand was gonna beat him. I remember a buddy of my, huge kickboxing and traditional martial arts guy was a big Cung Le fan and for weeks we talked so much shit about that fight that one was gonna get embarrassed. I never do that as there is always a big risk in your guy losing in mma, but this time F##k it.

Btw dude when I got you hooked up with a plat account apparently it was permanent instead of for 1 year which is pretty sweet since it cost $30 per year.

I really don't know of anyother fighter who was at the top of their division who got dropped as much as Wand did and still find a way to win.
Fuck yeah, he got hit hard going for the kill all the time. The only other one that comes to mind was Strikeforce/EliteXC Diaz maybe?

Silva did worse to Hendo that night. I loved how he stood up from mount to stomp Dan at one point. Just pure naked aggression, fast-twitch and cardio for days. The fact that he, along with his entire team, were juiced to the gills doesn't change the entertainment value for me. Silva's eye was completely screwed after this fight, too. Looked like Sloth from the Goonies mixed with a baboon. To be fair, he always had a simian look to him...

And the legend continues.

The funny thing is, no one but Crazy Horse has ever stated this KO of Wanderlei happened. All we know for sure is Crazy Horse went to sleep backstage via triangle in a scuffle with Cristiano Marcelo (I think that was him anyways) because we saw it on video. Everything else Bennet has said just sounds like a load of crap spewed by a complete basket case trying to save face.

Is my take...

Wand actually had fairly tight MT when he wanted to, he just decided to bullrush and swing away most of the time.

Too bad his chin failed him against Leben =[
The back to back Cro-Cop /Henderson KO's did a huge # on his chin. The Rampage 3 KO pretty much took what was left of it. The Leben fight was right after that brutal KO he received from Quinton.

Wandy was a fucking savage back then. True chute boxe style. He took a shit load of damage over the years and still kicked everyone's ass. Dan always had the h bomb that could ko anyone at any time. He do fucked up in that fight going to the ground. Wandy had amazing recovery, and Dan gave him the time to use it. Had he stood up as soon as it went to the ground dan could have won. Instead wandy came back and put a beating on him. It was a good fight for sure. Wandy was a tough sob back then. After his chin went, his style wouldn't allow him to be what he was. Being uber aggressive with a shot chin is never good.

28:15 in this interview, Matt Linland says he was an eye witness.

Those fights were a couple years apart.

And hendo was fearing for his life in the last minute of the round when wandy was soccerkicking and stomping his face in. Maybe even took out some teeth if i remember...
So yeah, who won that fight?
And who didnt knock down wanderlei lol.

One thing about prime Wand: he didn't have the greatest chin, but he arguably had the greatest recovery. Mark Hunt knocked him out and somehow he woke up when he hit the ground and survived. Pure warrior
Yup it was something crazy to watch. The only time it didn't really work for him was against Vitor, but then again it is difficult to recover when you're getting blasted on the chin 15 times per second.

I remember than in their second fight, Wand had several times a position that would allow him to knee Dan's head on the ground, but had to restrain himself because of the different rules of PRIDE in the US (no soccer kicks/knees to the head of a downed opponent). Not sure how much the rule change affected his performance there.

He was also in the hospital the day before the fight, he had a really high fever and bad strep throat if I am remembering correctly.

The rules did not hinder the match any more than the stand-ups/restarts given to Wanderlei in the rematch against Rampage.

Watch a bunch of Pride fights, the stand ups in that fight weren't anything out of the ordinary. Rampage was in his full guard and there was a lull in the action. I think the yellow card Rampage got against Randleman was BS though.
