Hendo nearly KOs Wand in their first fight

Meanwhile someone like Reem who goes down fast when the punishment starts seems to age much less.

Overeem isn't seen as aging because he always went down fast, but backed his game with excellent technique as well standing as in submission game. But his cardio and chin were always bad.

Some guys that rely on their chin seem to look older while being as bad as Overeem chin-wise because you can see a difference.

A Chuck or Wand that goes down will look awful while the Reem will look "normal".

Let's face it... Overeem is so good that even with a glass chin and suspect cardio he is an excellent fighter and a danger to anyone

Too bad his chin failed him against Leben =[

I still have this on VHS,the good old days lol.

I remember than in their second fight, Wand had several times a position that would allow him to knee Dan's head on the ground, but had to restrain himself because of the different rules of PRIDE in the US (no soccer kicks/knees to the head of a downed opponent). Not sure how much the rule change affected his performance there.

The rules did not hinder the match any more than the stand-ups/restarts given to Wanderlei in the rematch against Rampage.

While I agree that the stand-ups were pretty generous against Rampage, it's not something like a change of rules.

Not sure what you mean with your post, though

hendo is a fucking beast.

gonna go watch some god damn hendo highlights now.

Wish Supersage Northcutt had Hendos right missile, Roy Nelsons chin and Wanderlarius Silvers recovery.

The underlying factors have an effect on the outcome of a fight. All I was saying it may seem from one person’s mental point of view Wanderlei was at a select disadvantage in one fight it was not always that way and I used an example.

I contest little things add up and can become factors in the outcome of a fight. I am sure you agree with this.

I wouldn’t say that a guy who gets finished by Travis Browne and Ben Rothwell is just “so good.”
He’s been finished so many times.

One thing about prime Wand: he didn't have the greatest chin, but he arguably had the greatest recovery. Mark Hunt knocked him out and somehow he woke up when he hit the ground and survived. Pure warrior

It wasn't always that way indeed, and I pointed specifically to the rule change that seemed to have him hesitant at various moments in the fight. I don't care much about the outcome and at that point Wand was already in his way down, but I was watching the fight back then, it was weird to see him so hesitant when he was about to throw the, for that day, illegal strikes

I know he has been finished many times, but that's pretty much part of what I was saying. A guy with such blatant weaknesses but that still manages to have such a career, specially at such weightclasses, has to be that good

Wand rushes and charges alot at fighters so even the weakest punches can drop him because Wand is running full force into them.

It's science brahs.

Wanderlei had that incredible recovery. I remember when Hunt dropped him and he recovered pretty quickly.

That is probably a bad thing long term. It means he got hurt regularly in fights several times. Bad for his health and possibly career in the long term

Wanderlei was a god damn treat to watch. The man lived and died by the sword. He wasn't the most technical by a long shot but my god he was entertaining.

My absolute favorite fighter of all time.

Wand was an animal in his prime dude has a pure fighters spirit

It sounds like a clash of heads? i don't know hard to see from this angle but the sound is weird, maybe it's just the pride canvas, not sure.

Cung hit him with a spinning back fist I think. HIs chin held up well in that fight, Cung hit him with some good shots.

The Cung fight is my favorite UFC fight for Wand because Sherdog counted out Wand like he was a bum because he got embarrassed by Leben. I remember me (GrindingANARCHY) you, Kimble and a few others were the only ones that knew Wand would get the job done and he did it on short notice too since the original fight was Cung vs Belfort.

He got dropped but Hendo didn' have too much success other than that. That was the first pride event I watched

I do recall that very well. I knew Wand was gonna beat him. I remember a buddy of my, huge kickboxing and traditional martial arts guy was a big Cung Le fan and for weeks we talked so much shit about that fight that one was gonna get embarrassed. I never do that as there is always a big risk in your guy losing in mma, but this time F##k it.
