What are the mechanics of the sweep Roger always hits from closed guard when guys go knee in? He does it to Drysdale at 2:25. [YT]KM5oeBlR3zY[/YT]

It's as simple as it looks. Lock around the guy's whole body, knee included. Grab his arm. Tilt your hips to that side while crossing his arm. ..... Profit!!!

But seriously, just start playing with it. If you are bigger than the guy and/or have reasonable leg length it should work. I have shorter legs but used to do this sweep a lot. If you are good at the flower sweep, then your hips should be good at moving to that side.

Don't let your legs drop too low or you will lose the position. If the guy starts basing out and killing the angle you will also lose it. Try to go for it soon after locking up the position.

edit: and hide your ankle from foot locks when coming up.

Roger deceptively strong. Roger long legs. Roger good timing. No secrets, combination physical attributes, lots of training.

I also think the sweep is way easier than people make it out to be. Finishing it is the hard part :)

I think you push the guy to his back quarter, more so than tilt him sideways at a straight 90 angle. My 2 cents from having played with this. And yah, I would agree with others that I don't think it is difficult to get some immediate results with this sweep...I think it is overlooked because it looks more like you leg-wrassle the guy over or something, not some beautiful butterfly sweep, but same result.

Braulio has a series starting from the sweep on his paysite.

Yes, definitely. It's more of a twist than a rock.

And FWIW, when I used to do this a lot I started putting my foot (the one on the opposite side from where he's falling) either on his hip or inside his leg so that I could come up easier and not expose the leg to ankle locks or resweeps/reversals.

It's one of those moves that's easier to try and feel it than it is to describe.

People putting their knee into my balls has always been the hard part for me.

Lol yeah, that has happened to me a time or two. Compression shorts help with this. But you gotta get the sweep bro! Sacrifices must be made.

Does Roger have any instructional sets he has done?

Roger has said in an interview that he doesn't think watching youtube videos is all that beneficial for your game. If he means watching videos as a whole, maybe he's just having integrity to that and not releasing a DVD just to make some money.

Hoping he does Worlds so there's some fresh video of HIM, though. I think i've watched every recorded BB match of his and at least twice of all his fights at the worlds.

He has a MMA fight with some lame opponent in One FC soon.
