Help me understand something (probably obvious) that I can't figure out about MMA striking

I mean I chat stuff too. Your entitled to your opinion. But I know pro fighters are good. C mon dude. You know keyboards don't hit back. I would of done this that. Sometimes yeah, they do really bad moves. But he got caught by a big kick.
No offense sorry if it came of wrong.

I think this “rule” is responsible by the UFC commentators, especially Brian Stann. I remember him constantly saying you have to set up your leg kicks, and naked leg kicks are bad.

It’s both true and not true. Just like just shooting takedowns vs setting them up

I guess it all depends on what reads your opponent is giving you. Remember when TJ's coach told him to throw his kick without setting it up against Cody, because Cody would see the set up and know what was coming.? When TJ threw it by itself, it landed.

Setting up is legit. Just don't say never. Never throw un set up kicks. Totally disagree. Throw punches to hide them. All depends just practice and then you can create and bend or even break rules. You try to time and be less predictable. Sometimes even the obvious path works. Exmpl brawling and pressuring.
But def disagree with the "never" theory.

Tried to block it. You wouldn't block a head kick ?
no I don't train to block kicks. It happens reflexively but it's the least effective defense against a kick. For a MMA fighter it's worth significant time drilling to overcome that tendency.

whatever works works.

he got knocked out because he tried to block it. and it's his job not to be surprised by a kick.
And it's the other guys job to suprise him.

Basically you would defend everything lol. Do this that. Never get caught.

So how do you defend high kicks ?

cut it short if possible by attacking instantly
I think you and TS made up that you train 😅🤣😆

Ts trains with his younger brother and neighbour and calls them coach. Imagine some coach that you pay membership to, scolding you during sparring cause you threw a kick without punching first. Such BS stories.

I'm also asuming and chatting at least about ts, but Tiger bro you def don't train. Not blocking high kicks is completely false. You don't gotta train to post to sherdog. I hope I don't come of unfriendly. ✌🏻 no dissrespect

He needed to get the power off the kick absorbed on the middle of his foream and move his head and feet a little away from it. It was fast and powerful he didn't anticipate it on time. Also nice height, top of the head. He wasn't scared enough, too comfortable and the perfect kick came fast.

comfortable? he was feinting from a fear of really engaging. kick was not remotely perfect either but the incorrect reaction made it work.

he literally tried to do what you said and got brutally knocked out. so much for that theory.

The other thing is when somebody blasts a full speed full power kick at the start of the fight when they are fresh, the guy got little time to figure if he block mid or high. Great timing and commited kick. Rarely but regulary they get trough. Just blast. If the guy makes a mistake it's over. Crocop and Brestovac did this a lot. Blast full speed and if the guy makes a mistake it's a body of head KO or damage. Most kicks aren't at 100% and this was. You can block both by lifting the knee and arms up but that takes time. 2 seconds can be too much.

He tried but didn't succeed. I mean you sugested he should have thrown a cross as reaction 😅😅😆. You only can block it or move out the way if you got time. He wasn't aware enough. Easy for us to talk now. Barnett shot a takedown into Mirkos High kick and it worked. Ocassionaly in Muay Thai they do the lean back but that is very risky. It's all reaction time and awarness. They all know what to do. But it's all dimanic and a game of guess and set up.

a good straight right to counter that kick and the opposite guy would have been KO'd instead.

if you got the speed of thunder to react to that with a cross that is faster then the incoming kick. I rest my case.
