Ultimately the referee is to blame yet again. In other words the ref needs to be in place after the 10 second count down to the bell. The ref needs to be ready to insert himself in between the fighters as the horn sounds. The ref failed to do so in Lombard vs Dollaway

According to the rules...When the bell sounds, whenever that happens that’s just indication to stop the round (obviously) but according to the ABC (Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports) “That’s not the signal for the exact end of the round. That is when the referee needs to make sure he is in position and everything is in place to stop the action as close to that horn as possible.”

Agree. Fighters are hard to react immediately in the cage after the bell.
It's supposed to be a referee's job.

And I'm the last person to root for roid raged lunatic Lombard.

Your not wrong but I feel like Lombard is going to be crucified over this lol.

No he doesn't. They were both late. It's not getting overturned. Get over it.

I thought it was late, don’t think it was dirty.

Unfortunate ending for sure

I agree. I don't even like Lombard, but he's getting thrown under the bus when the problem is the refs are terrible. Consistently so.

this, i def think it was late, but, he was already in the middle of a combo that he probably throws thousands of times leading up to the fight. He just finished it off as he normally would but the bell had sounded. In the heat of the moment kinda thing. I don't think he was maliciously trying to hurt CB with a clearly blatant late shot.

Lombard knew exactly what he was doing. He just figured he'd get away with it since everyone else gets away with blatant rulebreaking these days. Reminds me of Palhares constantly acting like he couldn't understand why the ref was stopping the fight after his opponents tapped.

Should be overturned. I didn't like CB faking how hurt he was with his exaggerated wobbling, asking what happened after telling the ref he thought he said stop, which shows he knew what was going on. Lombard was in the act of throwing those shots right at the bell. A nc would have been more appropriate, or a tko for Lombard.

also blame Rogan, Cormier and Anik for not recognizing this and perpetuating the misconception that the bell ends the round.

The round ended when Dolloway landed his kick. Both of Lombards punches were thrown after the round ended. He has no case at all.

  1. Protect yourself at all times
  2. Referee didn't step in like he should have
  3. He instantly stopped once the ref got inbetween them

Not going to say he has a strong case, but the ref was the most at fault here for not doing his fucking job.

Yes. If the bell didnt happen CB still gets ktfo. I'm not a fan of either but the fight should be changed to a no contest. The ref stops the round.

You can't win a fight after the round ends solely on a ref not separating fighters. What would be the significance of a timed round? That would mean a fight only stops when a ref deems it so. I don't see how this fight could be overturned by any athletic commission.

I would have no issue with the dq remaining or it being a nc.

But while I agree that the ref should have done a better job, the shots were clearly after the bell and fart face shouldn't have a loss due to that. Especially after that Oscars worthy performance.

CB, a professionally trained fighter, got dropped by that shot. I can't imagine what would have happened should the ref have eaten that shot.

He's not a noob fighter; he's a f'g vet!
No f'g excuses!!

Lombard: "I do that sort of thing in practice all the time. People call me a dbag."

The sound of the horn was still tailing off after the last punch, this happened in about a second. If the round would have lasted 2 seconds longer same result except dq.

All I know.is fuck CB. Hope he gets ko'd every fight til he retires.
