In hindsight its kind of weird because Woodley went on to beat elite fighters like Maia and Thompson while Lombard was mostly a dud, he even lost to post-USADA Hendricks for G-d's sake.

I think that despite Woodley being a better fighter, he's a lot more shrewd in managing his career and always looks for the best fight in terms of risk/reward and Lombard wasn't a good fight for him in that sense. On the other hand Lombard probably has an inflated ego and thinks himself a much better fighter than he actually is, hence his confidence in calling out Woodley.

Not trying to defend the duck, if anything its kind of a worse look to duck a dude you probably could've beaten.
