Heavier hands Mark Hunt or Shane Carwin?

Carwin. Hunt is sharper and a more experienced striker but raw power goes to Carwin. Either guy could put your lights out in the blink of an eye though.

If Hunto and Carwin both threw a punch and there fists collided it would create a black hole in the universe

Hunt's power is a bit overrated, as is his stand up. A raw Cormier knocked the shit out of Bigfoot in short order while Hunt lost the first round by getting soundly outstruck.

That's more of a style issue than power. Silva seems to have more issue against speed that power. His last three KO's he got swarmed by Cormier, Cain, and Arlovski.

But Overeem, Fedor, Brown, and Hunt couldn't do much to him at all, and those guys hit like trucks.

The way to beat Bigfoot is to overwhelm him with speed, Hunt's not super fast.

Hunt can ko anyone. Not going to say he would have beaten Lesnar but I just can't help but think had he fought him, Hunt could have gotten the job done if he had the same chance Carwin did.

Carwin was stupid strong but technique > strength. Had Carwin had Hunt's level of technique.... Scary thought.

Clearly Carwin had much more raw power.

Clearly Hunt has much better stand up.

It depends on what you mean by heavy hands.

I think Carwin probably generate more PSI per punch than Hunt. But I think Hunt has more of that "Touch you go down factor".

Look at Carwin's KO's, most of them were either a series of unanswered strikes(Mir), or a lower level opponent(Wain, Wellish, Pendergast). His only clean, standing KO against a high level guy was Gonzaga.

Hunt on the other hand has just put down some guys with epic chins. Kongo and Nelson are two of the most durable guys in HW history. Struve doesn't have the best chin, but he's a pretty solid striker.

When I think "Heavy Hands" I just think of those guys that have a inexplicable knack for putting people down. I just think Hunt has more of those kind of KO's than Carwin.

And against Werdum/JDS Nelson just kept plodding forward throwing the same punch over and over...yet those guys couldn't finish him.

I know because in addition to watching those fights, I clearly stated they couldn't finish him. Hunt's power and striking are still overrated. :icon_lol:

This would've been an epic fight IMO. I'd say Hunt probably has the heavier hands, Lesnar did survive Carwin's early onslaught.

Hunt couldn't even knock out bigfoot...

Cormier, Cain, and Arvloski all did it so easily.

It's a weird phenomena, but anytime anyone on Sherdog uses "couldn't even" it's almost always accompanying a poor argument.

Lol someone is mad that Hunt knocked out his favorite fighter.

Carwin has heavier hands than any fighter who has stepped inside the octagon IMO. Like others have said, his technique was generally pretty bad but still put people to sleep if he connected with almost anything.

Warwin knocked people out with arm punches, and knocked Mir out with clinch uppercuts where he had very limited space. If he had the technique that Hunt has, its hard to tell how dangerous his striking would have been. It would literally be Hunt's striking but if anything connects at all you are asleep.

A matchup between the two of them is a tough one to call. If we are talking about when Carwin was active (around the time he fought JDS) I think that Carwin would win. He would be able to survive the stand-up and get hunt to the ground pretty easily at that time IMO.

If we are talking about prime MMA Hunt (which i believe is his current form) vs prime Carwin (probably around the time of his fight vs Mir) then I would give the fight to to Hunt. Todays Hunt would beat any version of Carwin. Hunt is crazy hard to take down now and is not weak on the ground if he gets there. Hunt would keep the fight standing and wear down Carwin en route to a TKO or KO finish.

The fight I really wanted to see (and i believe was supposed to happen) was Carwin vs Big Country. Any predictions on how that fight would have went down?

Sorry? Was asking a genuine question.

the way that fight went in the early rounds it definitely sounded like you were being a smart ass. JDS absolutely mauled Carwin in the early rounds and the fight was almost stopped. Carwin took a beating but hung in there till the better end and actually had a tight gullitone to finish the 3rd

Mark Hunt is better at everything than Shane Carwin is. Carwin is the most overrated UFC HW ever after Brock Lesnar.

That's why I asked that question in the first place, cause I forgot how their fight went. :)

The question really would be whether Carwin could take Hunt to the ground and either TKO him or have the cardio to keep doing so, standing I think Hunt wins 4/5 times.

I actually think Hunt would exploit Carwin's almost total lack of defensive movement(head or foot) even worse than JDS as he did Nelson's defencive weakness.
