Lately I have been having sharp chest pains. Sometimes they radiate to my left arm. It's never so bad that I think I'm about to have a heart attack, but enough to make feel very uncomfortable.

I went to the doctor about it and he completely dismissed the notion of there possibly being anything wrong with my heart despite my former lifestyle. Was 100% sure it was stress and anxiety related. I am under a tremendous amount of stress, but not so much that I feel like it would cause physical symptoms like this. But on the other hand I can work non stop at a very fast pace and feel completely fine. It's never physical movement that causes these pains but ordinary mundane shit like driving or sitting on the couch watching YouTube. I dunno man

What's your age and blood pressure?
Any possibility of infection?
And do you know your blood sugar?

Maybe get a 2nd opinion? Seems kind of crazy that a doctor would brush that off without further testing or an appointment with a cardiologist. I thought I had a heart issue before, and they gave me this thing that resembled an EZ pass taped to my chest for a week that recorded the relevant data.

I’m not a doctor, but I always hear that heart attack is a heaviness and pressure, not a sharp pain. Sharp chest pains are typically something else.
Should get an EKG though.

Knew a guy who had that too.
You're doing it to yourself or have done some sort of damage to your brain by drugs that youre now wacked out mentally.
He would smoke weed sometimes and stiff up and stop breathing or something weird. Wed have to start smacking him or wiggling him around and then hed come back to it.
He didnt have a job. Sat around all day and rubbed his chest like he was dying. Would go to the doctor who would tell him that he has nothing and to stop smoking weed.

He was always an oddball, but he went to the army and they discharged him for smoking weed 9 months in. When he came back is when he would stiffen up or past out and hit the ground. That never happened until he got back.

33. My blood bp is often high from high caffeine and nicotine intake. When I have less of those it's perfectly normal.

I dunno about blood sugar. But I'm extremely lean at 5"11 150 and will say I almost never crave normal food. I only eat one meal per day right before bed but do however crave sugar like crazy

Doesn’t hurt to get a 2nd opinion. I’ve had some shit like this and got an appointment with a cardiologist directly, I skipped the general practitioner. I’m a bit paranoid about it as my dad had a heart attack in his 40’s. She ran a bunch of tests, including a stress test, and turns out I was in fact healthy. If your insurance covers it, just go for it.

I would say I'm far from whacked out mentally bro. I work a mentally very demanding job that an idiot would be unable to do and have already earned a promotion in the short time I've been there.

I too had all this done around 6 or 7 years ago for a very similar issue. Just back then it was very infrequent and very sudden and intense. Now it's more of an all day lingering kind of thing versus 2 or 3 times a week and extremely painful

Get a new dr

The pain in your arm is a sign of heart trouble or a stroke

Wacked out as in your freaking yourself out.
I hear its alot more common these days for people to experience what you are experiencing, where the doctor just chalks it up to "anxiety".
Which is their way of saying "You're doing it to yourself"

Anxiety can present like a serious cardiac issue(know from experience). If your blood work is good, and EKG is normal, I'd trust the doc's opinion. But also couldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Check out this thing called Precordial Catch Syndrome

From Wikipedia

Precordial catch syndrome (PCS) is a non-serious condition in which there are sharp stabbing pains in the chest. These typically get worse with inhaling and occur within a small area. Spells of pain usually last less than a few minutes. Typically it begins at rest and other symptoms are absent. Concerns about the condition may result in anxiety.[1]

The underlying cause is unclear. Some believe the pain may be from the chest wall or irritation of an intercostal nerve.[1][2] Risk factors include psychological stress.[2] The pain is not due to the heart. Diagnosis is based on the symptoms. Other conditions that may produce similar symptoms include angina, pericarditis, pleurisy, and chest trauma.[1]

At the end of the day you're the one who knows your body best, what's your gut feeling on the cause?

Stress and psychology leading to physical symptoms is very possible. The head (ego) often tells itself it can handle X and Y, suppresses emotions that say otherwise, in such a case the only way left to express it is through physical symptoms. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because the thought-form in your own head has convinced itself it can handle tremendous stress forever with no issue that it's a fact.

You have to push your doctor to refer you to a specialist. General practitioners often act simply as gatekeepers. Keep pushing and get a referral. Not to a psychiatrist. They’ll try that bullshit first.

I had a defect in my heart for over a decade and they just kept fucking with me and referring me to psychiatrists. They had me on all kinds of drugs and nothing really helped.

It wasn’t until years later when I had to go to the ER that they finally figured out it was a genetic defect and that I needed surgery. So push them, and keep pushing. If they keep insisting there is nothing wrong, get it in writing. Nothing says, “You will be held accountable for this later” like asking for something in writing. And not in your medical file. In something sent to you, like an email.

Classic inquiry not suitable for a message board lol.
You've been to the doc - good. Get a 2nd opinion if you are bothered (you probably should always get a second opinion with potentially life threatening stuff in case a Dr makes a bad call).

Yes anxiety can indeed manifest in this way, and commonly whilst sitting doing fuck all.

This is a good response. It could very well be anxiety but may be something pathologically driven. Either way, work on your anxiety and get a full check up on your health.

Are you getting sleep, staying hydrated, exercising, sexual intercoursing, blahblahblah
