Hot Take Hear me out the UFC isn't dying

Paramount would be very displeased with the Apex slop fest that the UFC has delivered so far

It's not dying as fast as my interest, I'll tell you that.

Hang around long enough and you'll win a title by default now. Gaethje? And he beat Paddy Pimblett? geezus. This is like when Glover won the LHW belt at about 42.

it's already in rigormortis. Anyone else feel like this Paramount deal is Season 6 of the Sopranos? Where it's already over and they're just going through the motions for that one last big paycheck?

Let's face facts there are no more stars. 5 years from now whatever "stars" were left are gone or so few that they don't even matter. They just opened, Day 1, with an absolute slopfest. Their marketing is more confused than ever. I'm not saying dead for good the UFC will always exist but its future is looking more Fight Night and APEX than anything else. All the metrics point to this being a long slow exhale from a bloated corpse.

Don't let me tell you though, where is the UFC headed under Paramount long term?

Season 6 perhaps wasn't the strongest, but by no means was it bad. There's not a single episode of Sopranos that you could realistically say was just phoned in, let alone an entire season. Game of Thrones, on the other hand....

"UFC is dying" has been a weekly topic for at least the last 15 years.

Clearly it's not and the only time that statement actually had validity was when congress thought they could score brownie points by treating MMA as the actual movie Bloodsport and states banned it completely.

So why are we still saying it and what does it actually mean?

Easy, what people actually mean is their own intrest, after however many decades they've been watching, is fading.

Every other sport fans: "this game looks exciting and I like this team so I'm going to watch."

MMA fans: "I don't know who any of these fighters are but I'm going to watch no matter what and complain it's the UFCs fault when I'm not excited."

While you could hold the UFC accountable for some this and the critism is certainly warranted, it doesn't account for how you're in a completely different place in life compared to when you first started watching.

Can see the hyperbole and being overdramatic will always be a thing here, other than more ads and a cheaper entry price for the US its basically the same its been for over a decade now...

After the last card, I lost a lot of my interest. Searched for the delete account option in Sherdog but couldn't find it.
The WH card will probably be the final nail in the coffin for me.

UFC CEO Dana White said Paramount had an idea of how the first event on the network would do, but the card at T-Mobile Arena substantially exceeded expectations.

"We'll have numbers. I talked to Ari (Emanuel)," White told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. "Ari just said we'll have numbers on Tuesday or Wednesday. This exceeded expectations beyond belief for Paramount. We know it killed it. We just don't know the exact number yet. They're saying it exceeded by like double."

The UFC is doing just fine.

The problem isn't that the UFC changed, its that its hardcore fans (members of this forum for example) haven't....

We were weaned on limited PPV fights with the best cards. We came from a time when there were other orgs like Pride, Dream, WEC, Bellator and Strikeforce that had some great fighters and put on competitive cards.

We came from a time when the fighters were more important than the UFC brand.

All of this has changed. There are still good fighters and good fights but the side effect of the mass commercialization of the UFC is that the product has been watered down for the original hardcore base.

That's just weird but maybe yours available.

I will be waiting...

Sherbro, I wasn't mentioning licking my balls. I was simply suggesting a little play.

To the point, my post was basically a way of making fun of people that actually say goodbye to Sherdog.

Good Sir, this is just good fun. Don't take it seriously. If you go back to my post history, you will see that I'm a retard.

p.s. - Most 80-year old have fake teeth and experience, so that's a plus.
