Not sure if this has been talked about here yet, a quick scan of this forum and I didn't see it it.

Hawaii's governor signed a bill making it the first state to place its residents who own firearms in a federal criminal record database and monitor them for possible wrongdoing anywhere in the country, his office said.

The move by gun control proponents in the liberal state represents an effort to institute some limits on firearms in the face of a bitter national debate over guns that this week saw Democratic lawmakers stage a sit-in at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hawaii Governor David Ige, a Democrat, on Thursday signed into law a bill to have police in the state enroll people into an FBI criminal monitoring service after they register their firearms as already required, his office said in a statement.

Looks good. Commit a crime in another state that disqualifies you from owning a gun, and your home state is informed. This is just one benefit of a national registry should we go that route.

Criminals buying and possessing guns is not an essential liberty.

So, get a speeding ticket in one state -or your own- no gun for you. Makes sense.

People are being placed in a criminal FBI database for LEGALLY buying firearms here bud, before they ever commit any sort of crime.

I know you're afraid of guns and all Fawlty, but you are also typically reasonable. How does this sound reasonable to you -especially considering that almost 100% of legal gun owners make up almost 0% of gun crime? Why punish people who already follow laws? How does this make sense to you, at a reasonable level?

Sounds like Minority Report.
I like it.

That isn't how it works. The offense would have to meet one of these criteria, assuming this list is up-to-date:

1. Fugitive from justice;
2. Under indictment or convicted of felony or crime of violence or illegal sale of drug;
3. Under treatment for addiction to dangerous, harmful, or detrimental drug; or intoxicating liquor;
4. Diagnosed with significant behavioral, emotional, or mental disorder or acquitted of a crime on grounds of mental disease/disorder or committed to institution for persons with developmental disorder or mental retardation;
5. Anyone under 25 yrs. and has been adjudicated by family court to have committed a felony, two or more crimes of violence or illegal sale of drugs;
6. Minors who are under treatment for addiction to drugs/alcohol, fugitives from justice or determined not to be responsible for a criminal act or who has been committed to an institution on account of mental disease/defect/disorder

I have no problem with a registry for gun owners. I'd like to see us move toward cradle-to-grave accountability for all guns, and we can't have that without a registry. Nobody is going to be prosecuted just because they are cross-referenced with a criminal database. This is an efficient way of separating criminals from guns, I like it.

Don't feed the previously banned gun controll.

Is that seriously your argument? Well if they want to they can get you anyways?

Care to respond to the topic, or were you just triggered and unable to control your impulse? The ignore list is a safe space.
Looks like I struck a nerve.

No, my point is that privacy died long time ago.

Being on a criminal database < having your personal conversations monitored.

The 4th and the 5th are dying with a thunderous applause from the right because it targets undesirables the most, they dug their own grave.

The reasoning is pretty simple, Hawaii is run by democrats, the majority of gun owners are conservatives and/or Republican. Democrats have been trying to disarm blacks and Republicans since post-civil War reconstruction.

I will not be participating in any firearms registries.

The people of Connecticut took that same stand and it worked out very well for them.

The world revolves around those who plant their feet up on a principal, and will not be moved from it.

Really? If I had planted my feet up on a principal, I probably would have been kicked out of school.

I think there's a pretty good chance we'll get a registry in my lifetime. I'm hoping that makes it easier for future, more peaceful, less paranoid generations of people to disarm if they so choose.

That would be a violation of my privacy. It's no one's business but my own if I own guns, how many, what kind, or where they are.

Do you have your serial #'s written down and locked away somewhere? Most crime is committed with a stolen gun, so just in case one goes missing, then you can register it as stolen.

When you buy a gun at a gun store here, they do a background check and it goes on the state registry automatically I think (not totally sure).
