Social Have now spent almost half my life disabled

Is an odd feeling. I had a herniated lower disc that took about 5 to six years for to operate on. Was an extremely painful time, mostly bed ridden. Right before the pandemic I was in an elevator collapse and it injured the same number disc but in my upper neck. So from 2019 to 2024 i have the same injury.

Oddly I don't feel disabled at all but have to rest and can't really stay outside too long without my neck seizing up.

Herniated discs are piss annoying because no one takes this seriously but due to nerve irritation can have any wide array of effects. Worse when you come from an Irish background who tend to be culturally abilist.

Anyway ... disc hernia vs torn rotator cuff? For me it's disc herniated 8/10 for over all narrative but 5/10 rotator cuff due to...

Also today is meant to be my birthday

Fuck... back issues are the worst

And doctors still mess them up trying to fix them.

And Happy B-Day

Happy birthday and sorry to hear, but at least it’s working out so far.

I tore both rotator cuffs and both labrum. Life is hell.

how did this last so long in the war room?

my ma was bedridden pretty much for the last 10 years of her life, her problem was her weight, she was morbidly obese and as she got older it wore her back out. I notice, even though I'm just a little bit heavy, that my joints and back are not holding up nearly as well as they used to. It's not just injury, it's lifestyle and just age.
Luckily I never had a weight problem, I should given that I hardly move anymore. Lol

you're lucky, a lot of people turn into fatasses once they get injured. Even Bruce Lee went through a spell where he looked a bit flabby, i never heard it confirmed but always suspected it was when he was coming off that serious back injury where he laid around for six months. Not like that phoney movie where he rode around in a wheelchair but he was laid up and told he'd never kick again. He did kick again obviously but he was plagued by back pain for the rest of his short life.

The vast majority of back problems don’t require a doctor at all. It takes a lot of knowledge and work to correct them on the part of the sufferer though. Obviously if you need surgery or injections then you need a doctor. Most people with back issues just sit all day at desk jobs and don’t know how to balance that out. It’s debilitating though when your hip flexors are so tight you can’t even bend far enough to tie your shoes. But that kind of shit doesn’t require a doctor and is far more common than slipped disks and spinal stenosis.

United Healthcare has an opening,

Look in to it..

Seems like the wrong area but cheers bud. Seems like you've had a rough go.

What did I say that was false? Up to 40% of people who get neck or back surgery are no better off then they were a year after.

Like I said unless there’s something traumatic to fix or spinal stenosis, a doctor ain’t fixing your back.

That’s the problem with healthcare in general. Root causes and prevention are never the focus.

I can imagine, I did gain 20 lbs at first but that's where I stayed every since. Went from 5' 11" 180 lbs to 200 lbs. Never knew that about Bruce Lee btw.

This is true, I can vouch for the 40%. I'm still having surgeries and I'm actually worse off, way worse off. Some of the nerves in my neck stay inflamed constantly. The more you move the more inflamed it gets.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I pray that you can find relief and healing.

And happy birthday, I hope it is a good one.
