Social Have any of you had to take racial sensitivity training at your workplace?

I just had a training module ask me to choose who is more likely to like country music between a picture of a white guy in blue jeans and a cowboy hat and boots or a black guy with camo shorts, a vest, and a chain.

Then when you pick the white guy, because you’re not a dumbass, you get a lecture about how you have biases and you should reflect on why you picked the stereotypical cowboy to be the one to like country music. It was insulting to my intelligence yea f this BS !

I can pass those tests without even reading the question. It’s obvious what answer they want. It covers the company in case they need to fire somebody for PR points.

We had an afternoon where black employees talked about their experiences with racism and discrimination after George Floyd and subsequently hired a chief diversity officer (edit: I take that back, it was weekly and it happened for 3 weeks but no one showed up the 3rd week so they ended it). This week we have another from AAPI employees to talk about the racism and discrimination they've received during the pandemic. Besides that just the normal corporate nonsense and pronoun warriors. And lengthy lengthy lengthy emails from chief diversity officer that amounts to nothing.

At my job it's probable that it will happen, and when it does I will refuse. Unfortunately for my soft employers they can't afford to fire me for not attending.

Stuff like this is highly insulting. Why is everyone pretending like whites haven't been living in a multicultural society for decades now?

I remember back in the day you didn't say anything insensitive to the black guys unless you were ready to thrown down. Wtf happened to everyone?

Let us know how many times you inevitably have to take this training before you pass.

So a little context. Last year my company created a new Chief Diversity Officer position. After a long national search, the position was filled by a prominent social justice activist and an affiliate member of BLM. One of his first big initiatives of 2021 was for every employee to attend a week long racial sensitivity training. Mine is scheduled for later this week I'm just curious if anyone else out there have gone through this at your workplace and what was your experience like in these trainings?

sounds like your company is taking things seriously. good on them! i am self employed, but would love the opportunity to take a course like this. take advantage of it and learn all you can. courses like this can be invaluable in helping to empathize with others.
