Have any fighters mentioned how much they work out before?

They said to do exactly what I said, as in low rep strength based workouts.

That's training for strength, not endurance.

Sure, it can help your endurance, but it's not DOING endurance based lifting, it's strength based lifting.

Please go on about how you did nothing but prove my point.

Don't try to confuse me with your big scientific words, like "for" and "it", sir. I won't be fooled by your shenanigans.

IIRC, didnt mir say he has never lifted a weight in his life?

He said he started after the brock loss (i think)

his 7 ko loses

Yes, congrats. Now explain how it didn't help.

Do you know what would have happened in all of the other fights, had he not worked on his neck strength?

Maybe he would have been knocked out 20 times.

Working out your neck doesn't make you immune to KO's. It "helps".

Logic. Try it.

And he doesn't have 7 KO losses.

I've been in and out of the gym for 15 years.

The vast majority of thai boxers, western boxers, wrestlers, BJJ, and MMA guys lift at least somewhat. Very few go all out as ED or even EOD lifting taxes you enough that it will cut your road time and skill work.

I've found that many like to lift in the off season and taper off the lifting before a fight, especially true if they are cutting weight.

first off he does look at his record ko/tko same thing. and maybe it does help him a bit but i mean it just doesnt help him enough obviously. im a fan of the guy dont get me wrong its just that he doesnt have a strong chin

It's not the same thing at all. Those TKO's might have been KO's, had his neck been weaker. That's a perfect example.

No one really has a strong chin against the guys that knocked out Overeem.

alright i get what you're sayin

Congrats. You are officially the first recorded member of Sherdog to ever concede a point to someone!

You might be the most mature person on these forums. I elect you as president.

....No? This is MMA. Not powerlifting. You wanna go watch that garbage? Go pick up a copy of "Pumping Iron" at your local walmart. It's in the 5 dollar bin.

Powerlifting and bodybuilding are not the same ...

WSM is a fun watch I think

lol thanks. i just understand i dont know everything and can tell when i've been proven wrong

Weightlifting is beneficial without a doubt. But there is a limit to how much it can benefit. In football squatting over 300 pounds is tremendously helpful. Squatting 600 pounds however, has a less carryover effect and once you reach a certain point the extra strength no longer helps. Alan Belcher is a good example. He is a middleweight fighter whom I remember bragging about his strength and it was documented that he was exceptional in his weight discipline. His loss to Okami truly revealed how uneffective this was against TRUE competition.

heard somewhere that overeem lifts weights with his neck to try to strengthen the muscles to prevent getting koed. all seriousness. hasnt helped him.

He went like 6 years between KO's...

Jim miller deadlifts 400 pounds or so in a video floating around somewhere. Judging from physique most would lift regularly, although as others have said most of it is strength endurance style circuits.

It's funny because Jones was so proud he deadlifted that he put a photo of it on Twitter

405lbs deadlift is pretty weak for a guy who's 230lbs

EDIT: Could possibly be 475lbs, it looks like there might be some 35lb plates on the end

What a stupid, stupid post. Nothing I said would even begin to scratch the surface of powerlifting you dolt, so I am obviously not interested in that. Im interested in if anyone has heard fighters talking about general weightlifting. Plenty of other people were able to post on topic yet you decided to be a dumbass and make a fool of yourself.

Please dont post in my topic anymore as you are obviously not capable of adding anything relevant to the discussion.

Aint this the truth. Not bashing or anything, but Okami looked like a big brother toying with his younger sibling.
