Has the UFC gone almost full WWE now?

This is the entertainment business. It's not just about fighting. Without trash talk la WWE this sport would be dead. McGregor elevated himself by taking up some talk watching folks like Steve Austin.

Conor and the Reebok deal really pushed things to the edge. I personally enjoyed 2015/16 McGregor but due to his success building fights and then the fact fighters weren’t getting sponsorship money, they realised they’d have to take promotion more seriously.

When you have certain fighters who are witty and articulate it can be fun but then you had ones like Rockhold and Michael Johnson who’d probably fail year 9 English, trying to have wars of words with people it just got ridiculous.

Nowadays a lot of fighters are either dialing their charisma less personalities up to 11 or creating characters that aren’t themselves. I mean if Colby voted for Biden, it really wouldn’t surprise me.

Dennis Halman's speedo and Cody McKenzie's Walmart shorts are what caused the Reebok deal had fuck all to do with Conor.

Because the UFC isn't about the fights or the fighters, it's about Dana White's ego. Nothing is bigger or more powerful or more petty or nasty.

Just watch the shitty fights and avoid the media ?

I don’t see how you interpret what I said with Conor causing Reebok? Reebok caused fighters to lose out on sponsorship money. Conor’s rise at the same time made people try to replicate what he was doing to embarrassing results.

It's supposed to be a sport, but at the end of the day it's really a business, and the goal is to make as much money as possible. Selling tickets and PPVs is the main goal. So, it doesn't matter how good you are or how many fights you win if you aren't popular. So, you see guys like Bilal with long winning streaks that can't get a title shot, while a guy like Colby got a shot after 1 win in 2 years. And, it took like 5-6 years for conman to finally drop out of the LW rankings despite only having 1 win (ever) in the division.

Most of the discussion these days seems to be about "so and so said this in an interview"..
"So and so posted this on social media and he responded"..."This happened in the prefight press conference"..."This brawl happened".
Less and less discussion seems to be about the actual fights these days.

And to think that at one time Vince Mcmahon could have bought the UFC at a cheap price but declined. He never knew that social media would arise so we get our 'promos' all the time now through multiple outlets, the only difference is the fights are unscripted.

If by "gone full WWE" you mean it's become a watered down product with too many roster spots that continuously fails to live up to the hype and is arguably not even the most exciting promotion in it's sport, then yes, it's gone full WWE

really you don't see it? when you start your post like this "Conor and the Reebok deal really pushed things to the edge" you clearly associated Conor with Reebok you dumbass.

Its always had a pretty big pro wrestling element. The UFCs initial boom in the 00s was at least in part down to them inheriting a lot of the 90s/early 00s era wrestling fans who were getting into college age. I get that theres a lot of trash talk etc now but the overall presentation is actually less pro wrestling than it was in the 00s. They used to have pyro and entrance ramps and name the cards like they were wrestling PPVs etc.

I see it if you don’t read the whole post and just go off the first sentence like a dumbass.

They’re associated by time which I don’t think anyone can deny. However if you read what I actually posted there’s nothing in there that says Conor was responsible for the Reebok deal.

There's way too much meritocracy for it to be "full blown WWE." The sky is falling with all of you chicken little's. It's just that sometimes there's a fight that is maybe 3rd or 4th on the merit list but 1st in interest/economic power so they make that fight. It's perfectly fine.

This is also normal for sports. Yanno when the 2007/2011 Giants went to the Superbowl (and won), they weren't the best team in the NFL. They got hot at the right time and played good enough to win the games necessary to get into the title game. That's the nature of sports.

In MMA/boxing, you have to meet the minimum threshold of merit to get into big fights, but you don't have to maximize it.

After the "accidental" seating of the SA scumbag and the 185 champion scumbag so close to each other last might, it's pretty clear it's all just a show.

Mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be UFC fighters.
I'm still not convinced Strickland didn't
call DDP a N-bomb like Izzy did.

When are MMA fans going to understand that combat sports and pro wrestling are promoted the exact same way?

Thats why there was so much intermixing from day one and remains to this day and will continue thus forevermore.

I guess MMA fans are just completley ignorant of boxings entire history as well.

They claim to hate WWE so much but they seem to know more about that than boxing. Thats pretty sad.
