Has Kayla Harrison been tested with fast punches?

well we know for sure that amanda has been tested with fast, hard, elite level punches

Fucking WMMA title fight, this one. Can you believe it?

I think the only real question here is whether Amanda still has it.

Anything can happen in MMA but I don't tink Nunez will be held down. If not held down, then they're in Lioness territory.

Because worse grapplers havnet been able to take down Nunes in the past lmao

You just dont think Nunes will be held down

lmao
Yes, the only one toward the end of her career to do it was Pena & that wasn't even for that long, & I felt like Amanda had one foot out teh door at the time. I think there's a fire in her now. I don't think she would come back knowing the inevitability of TD if she wasn't prepared to deal with it.

Per my original point though, my only question is not that prime Nunes couldn't handle it, but whether or not she can come back after such a long layoff & still be prime.

If 9am took you down and put you in a compromising position, would you fight back or accept your fate?
Id have to fight back but I would surely be flaccid while I did lol

That's actually what I hate about this fight. If Amanda loses well she wasn't in her prime anymore, took to much time off, etc. If she wins well then there's no excuses and Amanda is the GOAT. This fight is kind of a lose lose situation for Kayla in a lot of ways.

Yeah she lost to that Brazilian brawler chick this way in PFL.

I more remember she just gassed out trying to wrestle Larissa for 5 rounds and sorta just lost from strikes Larissa was landing in the grappling.

I get what you're saying, but it's a win in a bigger way for Kayla though.

Kayla needs someone like Nunes for her legacy. Without a win over Nunes, she's not going to be remembered. Like, who has she beat so far? And more importantly, going forward, who can she beat in the next 3 or so years before she retires?

There just isn't any names at BW with a name anymore. Dumont and Yana are the two girls towards the top of the rankings who are streaking right now and that's it. Even dominating both of them won't make much noise for Kayla.

I do agree which is why I said it's "kind of" because your right it's still a big win for her and the biggest in her career regardless of the excuses people will make if she wins.

I haven't seen any female fighter who is coming at Kayla with fast crazy punches like Cyborg and Amanda Nunes do. I would imagine how Kayla would plan for a takedown if Amanda punches her in the face multiple times. The fight could finish in the first round. Has Kayla fought anyone like that? She might be stronger, but not faster than Amanda. A fight always starts with a standup.
Kayla knows Nunes is going to blitz her so she just to drill getting the clinch and takedown or shooting a double leg. Also how much speed has Nunez lost and will the cage rust be there?
Hoping Amanda leaves Nicole Bass v2 unconscious and twitching
Not many with get this reference sadly

Yeh, I get you.

The worst thing is that Nunes is probably gonna look like shit if she comes back now and it still might not do anything for Kayla.

Yeah, that built in excuse is a crazy part of this fight, but Kayla wants that name on her resume & signed up to get it. I'm not personally being too side tracked by that aspect of it though. I want to see it!

I can't fooking wait!!!

We can only imagine how much she's trained since "retirement." I heard she's been staying in shape the whole time, including sparring... but how hard she's been going is the question. It's very possible she anticipated a return but just needed a little time off while her 2nd daughter was born Nov. 2023. If she'z been continuing "standard training" during that time in anticipation of a return, then this could be a real banger. (it's not like she has been blind to teh arrival of Kayla)

For sure she'z been going hard since at least mid-year this year when she announced her return... & I'd speculate she'z been going hard prior to that as well before making that decision.

Obviously not "fight camp" hard... but she'z surely in fight camp now. It's really interesting. Teh arrival of Kayla didn't "sneak up on her." Most of us saw that coming since Kayla first entered teh UFC.

I can't imagine she's in it for only the money. She became a millionaire as far back as Tate vs. Nunes on a Brock card, which is just prior to her Rousey fight also doing a mill buyz too. I feel like this was a calculated bit of time off with an anticipated return & she will come back in top form.

Nobody really knows what the last 2.5 yearz have been like for her, but I'd say she's been well aware of a return since the start of this year at the very least.

@Croaker I'd like to add this into our earlier discussion.

Yea regardless of what I said I'm also very excited for this fight. It's the most I've been excited for a fight at 135 for a long time. I didn't know she continued training that's good to hear even if she wasn't going as hard as possible.

Nunes is old and semi-retired, I don't know how fast she is these days. For sure still hits hard though.
