In the Kaew vs Ilias fight, Kaew constantly got warnings for pulling down the head/clinching. My question is did they change the rules? To my knowledge k1 had the clinch 2 knee rule.
Do you think k1 is trying to limit the dominance of thai fighters? so japanese will actually have chance of winning their own tournaments because clinching with 2 knees doesn't really stall action, so could this be the reason?

It tripped me out reading that. I cant even remember the first time I came across the topic.

To answer your question, yes. Knees while clinching or pulling the head are illegal in modern K-1. Plenty of fights with more badass rules in MT and there is Glory if you want old K-1 rules, so it doesnt bother me. The quirkiness has an appeal of its own, kinda like CMT and shootboxing.

They went to double collar one knee separate to single collar one knee separate while under FEG. Now I'm not sure, @DastardlyMass was saying they eliminated clinch all together since K-1 Global took over but I'm not positive about that.

Yes yes and yes. K1 need these rules or the Thai's would constantly dominate and it wouldn't be as competitive. The same goes for fighters not getting any point for kicking the arms.

Just look at Buakaw in K1 2004 and then look at him in K1 2006. They got stricter with the clinching because Buakaw was just dominating.

I am fascinated with it. From Floyd using it well to shut down Manny Pacquiaos volume punching to fighters using it in the MuayThai stadiums. Its just one of those things that are extremely effective and when a fighter knows it it can make a fight very one sided especially if the other fighter doesn't.

It also can be boring to people who dont understand it and that can play a major role also.

k1 rules as they stand now under k1 global and k1 japan do not allow for any clinching what so ever.

Truthfully I'm pretty sure the current form of the rule has nothing to do with handicapping thai's. It just happens to have that benefit for k1. They want all action with no breaks in the fights and the clinch is what they think is stopping that from happening. It has become painfully obvious by watching the fights thou that the rule causes more interruption in the flow of the fight than allowing the clinch.

Kunlun follows the same rules as k1 but the refs will still let the fighters clinch if they are attacking which is what k1 should let them do

Semmy Schilt.

What about him?
He was the main motivation to K-1 control the time of the clinch(because he owned k-1 wgp tournament in 2005 with the clinch+knee ) back in the day, later then the another motivation was prejudice Buakaw dominant fight style who destroyed Masato in 2004 with the same technique and was looking to be a very hard man to beat if they not changed the rule in time,it does not worked too much considering when they made the rule of limited clinch(start of 2006,before k-1 max and k-1 wgp final 16),Buakaw adapted and made his boxing sharper and took K-1 max belt in this year anyway lol

They've made "kickboxing" completely literal, and it's even more unwatchable than other forms. Its like most guitar shredding. Go fast and make noise. Put 9 minutes on the clock and throw random spin shit and volume strike. Whatever.

Some of the best events out there. "unwatchable" okay.

The fights would be more exciting if they allowed offensive clinching

LOL All Thais bye-bye K-1. Why did he stay there ?
