Has Johnny Walker Reached his Ceiling?

He's going to be one of those guys that can potentially beat anyone but lose to anyone. He might be able to get a lucky KO here and there over good opponents, but he's just too hittable to ever be consistent against the top top guys.

I think we knew he was a gatekeeper since 2019 tbh. People want him to be relevant because hes a star(kinda I guess?).

To Johnny's credit, he's only had 4 decisions in 30 matches.

That means in 26/30 matches, he has either finished (or been finished).

He has 16 KOs, and has been KO'd 5x (4-1).

This means, Johnny wins 70% of the time, loses 27% of the time (3% draw) ... of which Johnny will get the finish 76% of the time, or get finished 24% of the time.

Overall, it's a decent record, but he does not have the stuff of Champions.

This sounds like Steiner math.

Pretty much. Unless he decides to learn some sort of fundamental striking. He should move up to HW, because there are so many more guys with even worse fundamentals than him until he gets to the top 5.

Crash test Johnny still has some more brain cells to lose

He's freakishly athletic but doesn't have a chin. He needs to start chewing full packs of hubba bubba 3x per day.

Might be the case. Hard to say because I feel like he could perform much better if he stops playing so damn much during fights. Oh well...

He threw spinning shit, then once all his attacks failed he didn't know what to do. Good athlete, terrible chin and fundamentals. Guess he could've just turned into Eddy Gordo and done caporeira

it’s tough to say based on this fight. i don’t think he had much of a chance against ank, notwithstanding all his non-seriousness. i do believe he’s capable of putting it all together better than he has been though. based on the current state of lhw, he has the tools to beat at least some of the fighters ranked above him. if he can manage that twice, then he’s got a path to the title shot. sadly, i dont see him beating a champ (who may be ank soon antway).

We're judging him after what I thought was a truly awful performance. There was literally nothing there imo.
Movement was ridiculous. Defence non-existent. Chinny asf. Fkn danced his shots in and out with no commitment and had zero recovery.

If he is still with SBG, I suggest he look elsewhere as it is clearly not working. Wherever he is he needs to move somewhere that will get him back on the basics and get him fighting properly.

The wildness was fun and the goody faces were too. Now it's just making him predicably easy to beat while being fun to watch. He's moving in the wrong direction for sure.

Tbh I think anyone would be cold on the floor after that shots.
If you look closely, he does not got dropped by a regular punch.
Jhony relies a lot in that long guard push when he got pressured, and he has done it sucessfully a lot in both Ankalaev figths.
But in the knockout moment, Magomed switched stances, putting him closer to walker, them he grabbed jhonny's arm and pulled it towards him, them grab his neck and pulled jhony one more time, what give his punch a lot of extra power.
All credit to Ank skills.

Jhony have the physical atribbutes to be a champion, but I think he needs to improve a lot his skill set.
His clinch game is weak, and he can't play always in the distance cause he have really short arms (that's why he kicks so much) , he should use more knees too, he is pretty tall.

I think some Judo throws would be very beneficial to him, he could always use that when opponent tries to close distance.
He should improve his BJJ too, long guys usually get submissions very easy on the ground.

For now, I think he's a solid top 10 LHW, dunno about top 5, champion? I doubt.

A good jab can be as effective as a spinning backfist.
Maybe not as explosive, but sometimes a jab can help set something more deviating up.

Johnny tries to do everything big but lacks the discipline to set it up the right way.
A 6/10 jab will win t'you more figth than a 10/10 spinning back fist

He never exactly had a ceiling, he just is what he is. He had some flashy KOs, that is it. Dude doesn't have what it takes mentally. Not very blessed in the IQ department either..
