Overrated for what? In terms of his skill or overall considerations as a fighter (which would include being exciting)?

He's a fun fighter to have, and is good, but I wouldn't say great. He would get beat by elite strikers and probably any grappler that is very good. He is good in terms of the current crop of LHWs, which doesn't include any grapplers and has only one elite striker.

He might be the champ without Alex, which reflects well on Jiri but not so much on the state of the LHW division. Grapplers have gone extinct at LHW.

He has looked small and frail upon his return and and showed no real adaptability and learning in the rematch against AP. It's reasonable to be cautious that he's been figured out.
He took that fight injured on a few weeks notice

He's a glass cannon and not very bright. Trains a lot of stupid shit all the time. 39% defense that's a lot worse than Tony Ferguson. Probably the worst in all divisions top 5, maybe top 15
He's a 50:50 fight in the top 5 against everybody with power.
Still a very good figther and ranked #2

Nearly lost a few times to Glover due to being stupid
Nearly lost to Rakic

Once his chin is more gone, he will be knocked out a few times in a row.
He's absolutely not a glass cannon lol. His defense sucks but to say he's glass is idiotic.

Every opinion you have is dumb as hell, so you're not one to talk.

Do you know how many fighting experts, such as myself, think Jiri is a dumb fighter?

That's not to say he isn't good. He is.

Defense is trash and he's here to embody a warrior spirit and to entertain. I'm here for it.

But no all time great welcomes getting hit over and over.

He's a fun brawler, but overrated.

Fuck all time greats. And the silly GOAT-obssessed fanbase that is ruining this sport. Mma used to be fun and full of warriors. Now it is full of elite level martial artists who pick and choose opponents whenever they can so they can keep a streak going and secure a bigger payday. Jiri is not overrated, he is a guy who was champion in two orgs by being a vicious finisher who is accepting getting hit in order to hit back even harder. Winning by pure determination and killer instinct is harder than by superior skill.

That's definitely one way to look at it and you're right if entertainment is your man desire.

My main desire is seeing the actual best in the world trying to be the best first and foremost. That's my entertainment. Win at all cost.

We just like different things.

14-2 isn't his record though. "In his last 16 fights" is such a weird twist on how they're reporting his record. 30-5 is still an amazing record. Just site it accurately?

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, but annoyed by the misleading 14-2.

I've always thought he's been overrated slightly. All offensive lacking defense. All heart no IQ. 205 version of Justin gaethje. Fan favorite but gives his coaches headaches.

Gaethje has been interim champion whereas Jiri has been the actual champion at LHW. At least he has that going for him.

Gaethje may not be a bad comparison but I feel he doesn't get the same hate/dismissal following a loss the way Jiri has.
