Avatar series never interested me enough to even watch one and Titanic is just a long drawn out story about Romeo and Juliet on a boat that sinks so he hasn't done much of interest of late. He seems to be focusing more on documentaries in recent years.

I wouldn't say there's enough to really judge. He made a bunch of good movies, and then decided to dedicate his life to "Avatar", which, love it or hate it, is one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. He's still got the magic formula.

Kind of hard to say where he would be if he hadn't become Mr. Avatar.

True Lies was a solid flick, generally underrated imo. Everything since has been embarrassing as fuck, Titanic included.

His last great one was T2. True Lies was solid but nothing amazing, Titanic knocked it out for the romance novel whores who cheat on their husbands with homeless artists, Avatar 1 was great proof-of-concept with an average script, and he's wasted the last 16 years on more of this bullshit, which I haven't watched and don't intent to.
