has anyone here turned from fit to fat?

Same here, come Jan 3rd or 4th I'll do something, no point pretending this month is going to be anything other than excess
I'm in good company again then. Let's make sure we don't do the "well it's the new year, let's have a week off" thing. I do need to reign it in. I'm fed loads at work which really doesn't help, my egg nog, Merlot and work treats isn't doing my wardrobe any good at all. I've been so careful for years and been in good weight shape, I'm not in the danger zone just yet but will be after Christmas.

I hit 185lbs at one point during lockdown, back working out and eating right again and down to 170lbs.

Yeah man.
Went from a body builder physique to a fat strongman. Weekend warrior syndrome led to some semi permanent injuries.

Yes, I got up to 300 lbs by 40 and was on high blood pressure pills.... I was a sprinter and running back in HS..bout 220 and built like a gazelle. Bar tabs, office life, and eating out happens. I got a high end commercial treadmill at the house and lost most of it.. I am 50 now..mostly vegan and run 3x a week with 52 resting HR... still never seen 220 again... 245..

Yup. All that changed when I left the military. I got caught up in the daily grind. I've been doing better since I retired. I don't have to squeeze in a workout. I can do it anytime that day. Mentally, it's easier to accomplish.

Yes, I was basically the same as you back in school, and let it go when I started studying. I went from 65kg and in great shape, to 90kg and well.. not so great shape.

It took me a few years to get back to good shape though, and with some motivation I had a goal and right now, everything is pretty good.

Yeah I was in the gym 5 or 6 days a week as a younger man doing Crossfit and BJJ. Marriage, children and employment took care of that lifestyle.

They call em' crappie. Now and then, someone will say "speckled perch". It's a popular pan fish here.

Yeah I did. Used to play tennis quite seriously every day, was doing okay weight wise not playing, then got comfortable and piled the pounds on. When I decided I didn't like it I lost it. Not healthily but I lost it. Was pretty badly underweight a few times.
I can see me being in a bit of a mess soon with the amount of egg nog I'm consuming and 9 days off over Christmas but I'll sort it out early enough in the new year. Beyond caring right now everything is so up in the air.

@Shidlord Have you considered working out at home? I know you can feel a bit self conscious working out at a gym or outdoors if you're overweight.

Who was your favorite Tennis Champion growing up?

Indeed only thing better, fresh water, is walleye but you gotta go to Minnesota or north even more for that.. That aint happening.

Yeah, you have to go up north a bit. I lived in Fargo/Moorhead for a bit. Closest was Christina Lake. No walleye there.

Stefan Edberg which is a bit rubbish considering I was a serve volley player and he was a bit boring ground shot play wise. I had pictures of him all over my wall because he was hot though, I liked Ivan Lendl, he never won Wimbledon which I wished every year he had and I like dudes with long hair so I liked Agassi and Cash as well. When Boris Becker won his first Wimbledon, it may have been what really got me into playing tennis. It wasn't expensive but his racket was my first sort of serious racket. So I guess he indluenced me the most.

Ive done it several times over, Im in the process of getting fit again, didnt blow out as much this time

I've found that the biggest factor that keeps me out of the gym is boredom. January thru March, without fail, you'll see the same new faces come into the gym and do the same 20 exercises in different variations. Then they disappear slowly. I've been there, just get bored out of your mind. When I made that realization that people were quitting on their goals because they they got bored, I realized I had done the same thing cyclically for years and years. Couple boredom with having kids, depressing, the season's, etc etc etc, and it's easy to find excuses not to lace up the shoes.

So, now, I add things in all the time. Or, I change up my routine when I feel like I'm in a funk. Spin classes, Cross fit, weight vest training, yoga, sand bags, kettle bells, distance running, sprints, powerlifting, hill training, mixing workouts into my range shooting, etc etc. I've done it all, suck at most of it, but keeps it fun.

That's just the method I've found that works for me.

Yup. Something happened after my first deployment. Lost all interest in working out and body went all out of whack. Gained like 50lbs.

Boxed at 81kg, endless gas tank.

Got job, 10 years later 130kg, walking up stairs was rough.

Now back down to 113kg and getting pretty fit again. It's a hard road.

Some guys take a cheat meal, or even a cheat day. I took a cheat decade or so.

But I've quit smoking, started to eat cleaner, and been regularly exercising for a couple of years now.
