Has anyone ever won by pile driver?

As long as there is an arc to the drop it's legal. Piledriver or 12-6 straight spike is not. If the opponent is holding onto a Sub then they get whatever ride you give.

He didn't want to be DQ'd, and maybe to an extent, didn't want to have someone's death on his hands.

There's a clip out there of some bodybuilder who got himself hype enough to attempt a backflip. Except he stalled halfway into his rotation and came down on his head; instant KO + eventual death. So there's your NSFW warning if you have to get curious, but it's a hard watch. Anyways it illustrates the dangers of that kind of maneuver.

I'm all for a just-bleed war, but there are rules and refs for a reason.

I wasn't sure of the exact wording on that but crown of the head; wouldn't that mean the Rampage on Arona KO would have been illegal(if it had been done in the UFC).

I do wonder if PRIDE stayed around, how they'd handle stomps and soccer kicks with guys like Ngannou popping up. Ngannou soccer kicking someone square in the face would probably kill someone, literally.. Imagine the Overeem KO followed by soccer kicks before the ref jumped in. At some point they'd have to see the insanity and gotten rid of them like the UFC did before that happened right?

No. Rampage's slam on Arona is basically a powerbomb. Similar slams done in the UFC has been Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve and Matt Hughes vs. Carlos Newton.
