Has anyone else lost interest in UFC/MMA , possible to regain it?

The early to mid 2000s were the golden years. Pride and the UFC. Even after Pride folded, UFC was great. They gave you a handful of worthy PPV’s. Even during the SF era it was fun. But now? It’s a giant glut and there is maybe 1-2PPV that are worth a watch per year.

The last great card was when GSP returned.

I lost interest. I had all of the PRIDE FC DVD's, quite a few of the UFC DVD's, and attended a few UFC events. The UFC only has so many "stars" these days.

Jon Jones himself has largely f*cked up the UFC. He had one fight in 2014. One in 2015. One in 2016. One in 2017. One in 2018. One in 2020. He's been stripped of the title THREE times!!

Then there's Conor. Probably the biggest PPV generator the UFC has. He didn't fight in 2017. Fought once in 2018. Didn't fight in 2019. Fought once in 2020.

Stipe has had DC as his opponent in each of his last 3 fights. Overeem, Ngannou, Derrick Lewis, and Blades are probably the most active and carrying the HW division IMO.

I used to be a hardcore fan but I'm a casual now. I'm not investing much effort when the UFC isn't growing talent like they should or forcing the veterans to fight more than once a year.

UFC PPV cards back then used to be stacked from top to bottom. Every fight was interesting, and usually more than one was worthy to be a main event on its own. You don't get that value from UFC PPV's anymore.

Gave up watching live (with the exception of Hooker/Poirier) after the BMF title fight was stopped for a cut. My old ass can’t stay up for PPVs anymore so I just watch gifs of finishes on Sunday morning.

I'm still very much passionate about the sport and still love to train. I just can't watch cards every weekend mayne. I used to watch ALL cards live and would watch ALL the fights too. From FP prelims to PPV main event. Just can't do that anymore. And I agree that they have WAY too many figthers on the roster. I'm also sick of all the drama and shit talking. All I care about are the fights.

Stopped caring around the time DC lost to Jones (2nd time) and Conor went inactive.

Gonna get fightpass soon and start getting back into it though.

Yeah ive turned into a super casual and only watch big fights now a days.

From like 2008-2015 I couldnt get enough ufc. Id watch every event I could from the undercard to the main event, even if I knew the fights would be shit.

Now I might watch 2-3 main events a year. Maybe I just burned myself out but it seems like the UFC lost the magic that it use to have.

The original spirit is dead. It’s all corporate and marketing now, UFC as a company are more content creators than fight promoters.

I don't see myself going back. I mean, I watched UFC 1 live. It was scary, nobody knew what would happen.

Pride was somehow otherworldly and mysterious. The crowd was different. Many fighters were hardly interviewed. Fedor was from another planet pretty much. Sakuraba was one of a kind. Soccer kicks, knees, stomps, weight differences... Fuckin scary

It's all too familiar now. Just another sport with cookie cutter douchebags having verbal pissing matches, leveraging dumb rules that were created by politicians, cutting weight like a motherfucker, fighting for points, yaddah yaddah yeah I've seen that. Have fun with that. 100 different versions of Chris Leben out there, except tbh I think Chris was more respectful than this generation. (That might be the saddest statement ever made.) And at least he fought to finish.

And it doesn't help that it isn't really a sport. I mean Brock Lesnar was the HW champ after like 3 fights, lol.

I will watch some bare knuckle though. Idc care who's the "best". I just wanna watch a damned fight every once in a while

My interest has waned as the guys that were on top when I started watching have all started to retire. I'm also busier than I used to be, and don't know as many people irl that follow it.

I still watch quite a bit of MMA, but I rarely post in the UFC forum anymore. I have a better time in the Mayberry and War Room than the heavies.

Except for the shoop threads. These are still gold.

I still watch, but I haven’t bothered to check out a lot of the fights from the last few events. Having to stay up to watch mediocre fights sucks. They sandwich the fights I want to watch between these DWCS fighters who I have no interest in.

I feel like the sport has also been pussified at this point. I’m all about watching clean technique and defense and I consider myself a purist, but I just cannot stand to see some of these early stoppages that are occurring in title fights and main events. I also can’t stand the sob stories that we are shown on the contender series.

I also hate how they promote guys like O’Malley. I of course understand why they are doing it, but it’s sad that a lot of guys are forced to act like clowns if they want to get some popularity. I also hate how fighters come out and complain about how all fighters in the sport are underpaid, but as soon as they get paid what they want, they shut up about fighter pay issues. Look at Jon Jones and Masvidal. Fighters are selfish. Just don’t pretend that you give a crap about your fellow fighter.

I’m looking forward to KZ vs Ortega, but if it clashes with Lomachenko vs Lopez I think I will pick the boxing. The Khabib vs Gaethje card is good, but it was great before we had the inevitable pullouts. MMA is doing well, but I will gladly skip cards like Holm vs Aldana. I still consider myself a hardcore fan, but sometimes I’m a little out of touch with some fighters and I have to go back and check out their previous fights on fight pass
