So I have been watching a few of the movies I have missed and I have to admit I thought these guys were the same lol. I remember finding out year ago they were different but then just forgot about it lol. Wanted to watch more Michael Myers movie and got friday the 13th movies results so thought they were about Michael Myers lol, true story. I have to say for me i probably prefer Michael. I love the theme music and the theme music in the first few Friday movies SUCK.

I judge slasher movies on many different merits.

How cool is the Killer? Killer has to be interesting....
Friday 13th - Something we know is already dead, strong as fuck, possessed, hell bent on destruction, and supernatural. His mom was a normal angry person and Roy was just a demented normal person, both didn't show signs of being more than human and were believable in their roles, albeit I enjoyed them less.
Halloween - Normal guy who is sneaky-ish depending on what movie/reboot he is in (he walked dow the FUCKING ROAD in the newest one, WIDE OPEN, PLAIN SIGHT), with peak human strength, and apparently age doesn't play a factor with

Could they happen and/or are they believable? I like to think what I would do in certain scenarios when watching these movies, and this helps.....
Friday 13th - No. Except for when his mom and Roy were killing.
Halloween - Yes

Are they enjoyable and why? Whether it's believable or not, is it at least entertaining?
Friday 13th - Yes. Gruesome kills, different Jason styles, different locations, and nudity throughout. F13 movies knew what they were, and knew what the fans wanted.
Halloween - Sometimes. Kinda. Rebooted to death, but great kills none the less. Halloween fans have had a roller coaster ride with all the reboots, that I may have mentioned a time or 6.....

Does the killer and the motive make sense? Why is he/she killing, and what fuels them to kill more?
Friday 13th - As much as I would like to say no... Yes... They tend to make sense. All but the 9th installment, Jason Goes to Hell. The progressions from the first movie and all the motives stayed in check, and his motivation throughout to kill young teenagers and counselors continued to make sense, as they all neglected him to go off and have sex and left him to die.
Halloween - No. He was hell bent on killing his family for an unknown reason, then just kept killing. Then reboot, more killing, then reboot. Search for next family member, then Busta Rhymes, then last Dr that tried to help, etc;

Would I still want to see a sequel/reboot with more of the same in it?
Friday 13th
- Hell yes. Start from scratch, pick up after the last F13 movie, whatever. I want to see Jason Vorhees in all of his glory anytime
Halloween - Would have answered yes before this last reboot, but the way they are still 100% completely clueless on how to kill a man and make sure he is dead, cremate his fucking body, just baffles me. I was REALLY excited for this reboot, and I left the theater extremely disappointed....

Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies maintained their identity throughout, well at least until the latest Freddy movie hit anyway. These two juggernauts hit it big early, and kept the same formula the entire way through. Hell, even the newest Freddy movie wasn't AWFUL to my standards, but it did miss Robert Englund in a HUGE way.

Halloween never really hits it's stride, and you can tell that if you watch the originals, then the Zombie ones, then the Activia one. Was he JUST human? Was he the most stealth stalker/killer around? WHY IS HE KILLING???? They tried to give him a backstory later in a reboot, but he was already an established centerpiece to a whole movie universe, and it just didn't fit.

Oh shit, yeah, you asked a question....

My answer would be Friday the 13th. These movies are fun and timeless to me.

Mmm, i would have to go with Friday the 13th franchise after a moment's thought. Theyre more creative, tits galore, and his look gets better for each sequel.

Halloween 1 & 2 are better than Friday 1 & 2, but not by much. After Halloween 3, i simply cannot watch any of the sequels. Theyre literally unwatchable. Whereas Friday becomes self aware and runs with its schtick.

I like how I choose random threads to expand on a simple "choose option A or B" for no fucking reason at all. You can tell that it is a Friday and I am bored as fuck....

John Carpenter. Case closed.

The Halloween movies in general are far better, with a few outliers.

I have been watching both recently after going years of seeing those movies at blockbuster but never renting them as a kid. I think halloween deserves alot of credit for starting the genre and carpenters classic score. After the first two and #4, things take a big dive until H20. They completely killed the franchise (so I thought) with resurrection which I didnt even watch.

Friday the 13th gets a lot of credit for its twist ending and THEN starting jason. I think #4 might be the best one with corey feldman. Once he becomes zombie jason, it kinda goes off the rails. His look is super cool though in #7. I havent seen 8 or 9 but did see Jason X and that was more a comedy like bride of chucky.

Fuck the remakes of both. I would like to see them continue Jason from the 80's/90's like they did with halloween 2018 without ignoring everything else, like halloween 2018.

Overall Friday the 13th wins based on cooler kills and Villian. By halloween 6, they fucked up his story so bad it had to be redone, twice. Jason jumping through windows was always cool.

You forgot to address the music though. The music for Friday 1-3 SUCKED bad. Halloween though as a badass killer theme song. i would rate it as a 10 while Friday gets a 2. I seen friday 3 just right now and that horrible music made me feel like skipping that movie. it just sucked really bad.

I don't know if I've ever even really seen all of a Halloween movie. I like jason as a kid but I never have any desire to watch it now

Halloween 1978 is the best movie from the two by far imo but Friday the 13th is much better as a franchise.

I like both. As an 80s kid I grew up watching a lot of horror movies. Halloween has a darker vibe, while the Friday movies are more intentionally campy

Halloween 1 and 2 are my favorites but I did recently watch F13 2 for the first time in decades and really liked this...

I enjoy them equally.

Each series could be segmented into certain eras.

Halloween 1, 2-3, 4-6, H:20, Resurrection, RZH1-2, H:40.
Friday the 13th 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, JGTH, X, Vs., Remake.

I think each series had parallel films as well. Friday the 13th 1-2 mesh together really well as do Halloween 1-2, both part 2's had a lot of returning crew members and the directors of the first films produced the sequels. Halloween III and Friday the 13th part V were considered the black sheep of the series due to the legacy killer not being present (though Jason's spirit was active in V) but both films are more well liked now after re-appraisal. Halloween VI and Jason Goes to Hell were the only entries in each franchise in the early to mid 90's and both introduced occult elements, advertised to give the origins for the series killers, and weirder than other entries. Halloween IV and Friday the 13th part VI were both fresh starts to a new segment in each series and both are widely liked as being one of the best entries in each series. Then you have each series having a remake in the late 2000's as well. I'd also equate Halloween V and Friday the 13th part VII due to the campy "teenager" acting in each film, odd directing choices and corny comedy, and both being where each series started to go off the rails a bit with each series introducing psychic phenomena and other bizarre things outside of the killer.

The Friday the 13th films are mostly more easily digestible and breezier watches, but the Halloween films are more lore heavy, a bit more serious in tone, and rely more on atmosphere where you need to be invested more.

I want to say Halloween as I'm a Michael Myers fan. But I sure love the sexy teens in Friday 13th!
