Economy Halfway to a recession- US GDP shrinks by .3% in Q1

Those damn left wing aspirations!!!

Why aren't people happy living in a shithole struggling on one wage in a traditional family setup that no longer works thanks to generation after generation failing to deal with the ever widening wealth gap that has gone so far that first time buyers no longer have any prospects on that "preferable" single wage?

Leftists, damn yoooooouuuuuu!

[/skeletor]

Just blame rich people in future. The ones that don't pay a proper wage while hoovering up properties and removing them from the market place.
The traditional family doesn’t work because money doesn’t work

Siver, you trippin'. You got to listen man. There might be a chance people might get $5,000 to have a child. It's going to be red panty night once that $5,000 hits (sarcasm).

That should cover the cost of a garden shed, now.... where to build it?

Making and building in America. All according to Trump's masterplan. If you build that shed you will be doing your part in Making America Great Again.

You're sorely mistaken if you think the fertility crisis is because people are too poor, it's the most acute among developed nations and among the middle and upper classes in them.

Of course that guy's explanation is retarded, the fertility crisis is also present in very conservative societies like Iran and India.
The traditional family doesn’t work because money doesn’t work
You really can't let go of the bad faith shitposting can you?

The money works. The expectations don't.

Ask anyone these days to raise 2 kids in a 1200 sq. ft. home (shit, try to find a 1200 sq ft. house built in the last decade) and not buy a new car every 5 years. Ask them to not vacation outside of the country every year.

Ask them to actually live like people did in the 1950s and it becomes obvious that the problem isn't that money doesn't work. It's lifestyle creep that driven the problem.

Sorely mistaken lol

I've watched it play out, heard it play out, acknowledged the reasons for it.

It's not the sole reason, but it's a HUGE reason. A lot of people don't want kids until they're comfortably set.

People ain't achieving rhat status until they're nigh on 40 - a woman in her late 30s having her first kid is having one.

Aspirations for themselves and aspirations for their children (not having children while living in a shithole area with poor schooling for example) are massive reasons people don't want to have children as young anymore (and therefore have fewer, later).

I can't believe anyone would even question that, but I'll listen to your case. What do you think the cause is, because I'd be impressed if that cause ultimately didn't come right back round to money (ie, women in the workplace/second income requirement).

The bigger worry is how left wing brainwashing is destroying our fertility, and that will ultimately destroy our economy.
Doesn't have anything to do with the left.

The reality is that teenagers don't get pregnant as much as before because of sex education. Women who go to college and enter the workforce don't want to derail their careers from 20-30 popping out kids. Especially when the male side of the conversation is increasingly insistent that marriage and being financially responsible for some woman is a losing game for them.

Do we really expect men who are being told that marriage is for suckers to be appealing mates for women? And if those men expect the women to stay home and raise the kids and not ask for divorces from shitty relationships then those women are going to expect a lot more financial security from the men.

Society has changed, both men and women are increasingly vocal about how marriage and parenting don't make sense to them. And most of the arguments are based in capitalism and male independence.

WHAT

For years Sherfronters have assured me that the fertility issues is strictly a Western phenomenon driven by the globalist elites so they can pump brown immigrants in (from places like Iran and India, coincidentally) and thereby dEsTaBiLiZe WeStErN sOcIeTy!

It's all a power play, you know.

Again poor people, whether between developing and developed countries or within them when comparing the lower classes to the middle and upper ones, have more and not fewer children so that deeply undermines your argument here.

The best explanation I've heard is that cities have always had below replacement levels of fertility and thus always needed to be replenished by population infusions from their respective hinterlands.

The issue in the modern developed West is that basically our whole societies have become industrialized urban areas and so the population infusion now comes not from within our societies but from without in the form of immigration from the developing world. This is why societies that have strong immigration inflows like the US can stave off the economic downside of low fertility.

I'm gonna hire an illegal to do it.

Guys, it’s not a fertility issue. That would mean people want to get pregnant but can’t.

Okay, I get what you're saying, but the reason poor countries with high birth rates does NOT undermine my argument is the word I keep using: aspiration.

In the countries we're talking about in this thread, aspiration coupled with inability to achieve a minimum level of security and comfort IS the cause.

It might be an urban issue, but one thing it's not is a leftist issue.

Aspiration isn't the scourge of poorer nations, and that's sad in itself.

That's very different from claiming that Americans living in "shithole" conditions is the cause of the fertility crisis which if you think about it is an insanely out of touch statement when you compare US/Western living standards to those across actual "shithole" countries.

Guys, it’s not a fertility issue. That would mean people want to get pregnant but can’t.
I didn’t say it was a fertility issue. Though, I wouldn’t dismiss fertility as a factor. Women aren’t having kids at a younger age because of money issues. The older they get, the harder it is to conceive. There are also environmental factors.

You really can't let go of the bad faith shitposting can you?
Saying that people can’t afford to have kids is shitposting? wtf there is literally a mountain of evidence supporting this.
The money works. The expectations don't.

What a shit take.

My goodness. Just start telling people to lay off the avocado toast while you’re at it.

Well for one that's not what you said, you made a snarky post without much substance.

Second, where is this mountain of evidence? This isn't to say that costs don't figure into the average person's decision to have kids but when the poor within and without the country have a higher fertility rate I think you have to consider that there's something else going on.
What a shit take.

My goodness. Just start telling people to lay off the avocado toast while you’re at i.
He's right though, the baby boom in the US happened when the country was far poorer.

Hmm, the point is that people living in shithole conditions in America are going to wait until they achieve better before having children. The point is, they can, and they should.

It's sad that people in some countries can't do that with even less opportunity for social mobility (in some cases, none), but it also makes life so much simpler.

In a bad way for them and their family, in a good way for a statistic like fertility.
