So after I pay with my card, I leave the $5 on the table, we walk out and sit on the bench while my friends smokes a cigarette and we continue to catch up. The waiter comes out side a minute later in a frenzy, screaming about this and that and how I'm a cheap fuck and how I shouldn't go out to eat if I can't afford to tip and shoves me to the ground.

He ends up saying "$5 on a $200 bill is unacceptable and I should go fuck myself", and then he goes back inside. My friends ask if $5 is really all I left? And I said yes, and they said why didn't you leave a tip on the receipt with your card? So I guess they took his side in the matter and they talked me out of going inside the restaurant and complaining.

For the record these people aren't your friends. They stood there and did nothing while a waiter yelled at you and shoved you to the ground.

that grubby server probably makes 3$ an hour.

It really confused me with who I was supposed to tip in the states.
Bars and restaurants were fine but a hair dresser and wattaburger turned down my tips.
In the end I just offered everyone a tip

No you dumb dildo, I didn't want to put any money on the tip line because on 2 different occasions I've had waiters add 0's to my tip, and I didn't notice because the tip doesn't come out of your account balance for 3-5 days, so know your role and shut your mouth.

If you've got $200 for the bill, you should be able to come up with at least $20 for the tip. Still pretty low, but if you are only gonna leave $5 you might as well not tip, at that point it's more of an f.u.
