Look what happened when they both fought Davis... MMA math. Gus has a lot to prove. He's known for losing big fights. Machida beat a lot of big names.
 
Didn't Machida recently get suspended for failed drug test?

I wasn't using mma math to actually say Gus wins. Just that him competing at that level with both jones and dc should be enough to prove he's an elite caliber fighter and people dismissing him against machida because he lost close fights against the 2 best lhws prob of all time is fuckin dumb. And Johnson of course.
 
Gus is really just a very tall brawler, he has fast powerful hands and an iron chin. He blocks punches with his face and just overwhelms them with counter punches

machida would run in circles landing 1 strike every once in awhile and win a boring as fuck decision
 
Great post that illustrates what I'm talking about. Notice how he gets hit with huge bombs but just keeps throwing punches without defending? Especially in the 3rd and 4th gif.

Shogun and Manuwa landed huge punches like that and gus won because he overwhelmed them with the counter punches. I picked rumble to KO him because when rumble lands like that, he can't just walk through it

Anywho, I don't think machida has the power to Ko him but he would land he throws and I believe in his ability to escape the predictable counters. It would be very boring tho

Gus is a good fighter but not great, hes in the Chad Mendes/Kenny Florian mold, well rounded good fighter but not great. The fight against a shot Shogun was basically even through 2 rounds and Shogun came closest to a finish in the fight with that tight kneebar which Alex said he was scared of. Lyoto was great in his prime not merely good like Alex who cant beat top fighters in their prime and Lyoto would win a comfortable decision. Gus would win a round maybe 2 with TDs but hes not beating Lyoto standing.

The Gus wank here is hilarious but its mostly been new breed autists who think past greats cant compete with the top guys now lol. Same dummies were saying that about past MWs before Bisping KTFO Luke.

Machida failed a drug test so all of his wins do not count and his whole career is a sham. That is the rule. Am i doing it right?

If they fought multiple times I think there would be mixed results.

Prime Lyoto was very tricky and juiced up real good.

Gus is a big LHW with great hands and chin and underrated wrestling.

I favor Gus but only slightly.
 
Gus has kind of bad striking defense at times and isn't as powerful of a striker as shogun so Machida won't slow in the championship rounds like he did against Shogun. Shogun repeatedly hit him with body kicks and leg kicks. Gus could try and do it too but I don't think it would be the same. Gus may be able to win if he mixes in takedowns though

The Gus/Shogun fight wasn't as close as most say and I'm a big Rua fan. Gus would give any top guy in their prime problems at anytime like he did against Jones. His reach, toughness, and IQ is some of the best in the world.
 
Machida isnt that far removed from his prime. The guys at LHW and MW just got too big and strong. He just does not have the power for those weightclasses
