In 2013, after Jones was injured, Machida wanted to fight Gustafsson. However, obivously, the fight never happen. If it did, how do you think the fight would have went down?

Prime Machida. Gustav hasn't won any top fights bar Shogun. He's talented but Machida is proven

Great fight, machida has the striking edge, but gustafsson has the power and size... i think its 50/50

Well since Machida isn't really "explosive", I actually might favour Gus.

Machida would pick him apart but we would all be winners in this matchup because Gus is so tough and can really take a shot.

Lyoto would take a hard fought decision in a very entertaining standup war.

I guess that karate range and fast combos would be too much for gus

Gus' long range weapons would be too much for Machida to get anything going with his counters.

tough fight to call, I'd lean towards Machida, but I really can't call it

Gus.

Size, power, speed, there wouldn't be a counter punch for the other dude. And wrestling.

I favor Gus, slightly. I don't think Machida could finish him, and Gus isnt exactly an easy target.

I don't agree with the last bit, Gus has taken loads of punishment vs good opposition, its more a question of would his chin chold up to walking on to the Machida straight and maybe kicks.

That's a coin flip fight, Lyoto controls distance better and is better defensively so I would slightly favor him.

tough matchup for the dragon

i dont think those straigh karate punches work well against a so much taller fighter

gus usually gets caught by looping haymakers

I'd take the dragon, on this one Homie!!

Gus, no doubt about it. Too rangy, damn good chin, good grappling, good footwork, and crisp hands.

Gustafsson doesn't beat top fighters. I would favor Machida even today.
