Gunnar Nelson's Ceiling?

hahahahaha - thats about what i expected - maybe one day grow up and put on the big boy pants and have some better reasons

There's no doubt the bloke isn't being impartial one iota, but I thought that Story fight was a clear win for him.

No idea what region of Russia having better wrestlers than in Ireland/UK (don't get why those two places are mentioned) or Iceland means. They're fighting in MMA, not wrestling.
There are much strongers wrestlers in Balkaria, than in Iceland and Ireland/UK together.

If he goes down to lightweight he is a legit contender. He won't be able to make much noise at welterweight though.

I know this, but it just gives a good indication that Tumenov will have much better wrestlers to wrestle with, so his offensive and defensive wrestling will most likely be better than Nelson's. Therefore, making it an even tougher fight.

im sure you remember the fights, but what are you expecting from the community? this isnt about conor mcgregor or hating jon jones

the fight w story wasnt close? why you say that? gunnar is a really good fighter, he was being built up i thought for the european cards and then ran into some tough challenges - still a really good fighter i think - it was rough for him bc he was kind of known as a bjj guy and then he ran into maia
Story beat the crap out of Nelson. 50-44, 49-46 and only a corrupt judge gave him the fight 48-47.

He is good but he is borderline top 10 at best.

Well, I gave you some better reasons that you chose to ignore. Are you happy?

if gunnar is an amazing grappler then what does that make demian maia

it makes him a former MW title challenger vs anderson who has possibly the best jitz in the sport. gunnar is ofc a bery talented grappler in his own right, just not on the same level.
He's got impressive top control, but that's literally it. Maia completely schooled him on the ground which shows that he probably isn't much of a threat off his back if you take him down (much akin to Weidman) and as you mentioned his striking is very limited.

His offensive wrestling is decent but not quite good enough for the elite. If he can improve his wrestling, he might crack into the top 10.

I'm sorry but not being able to threaten maia of the ground does not mean he "probably isn't much of a threat of his back" I actually reckon his stand up is underrated a bit but against larger opponents it's hard to get a good read on how he'd do at LW say.

Top 10? I just looked at the UFC rankings, and I don't think he beats any of them lol, but I wonder why Gastelum is ranked so high. I even think guys like Larkin and Jouban would beat him.

I would agree, but I think most of the top 10 would beat him. I would love to see Dariush and Nelson grapple tho
