I figured out a way to fix the L3 analog stick from grinding and popping on my X1 controllers
I don't know if any of you have experienced this problem (because I have with both of my controllers), but there is a little clip that breaks inside of the controller causing the Left analog stick to click and pop when you press it in and move it around. Like when your running in a FPS or sprinting in Fifa or NHL games the controller will still work, but it's rather irritating. If you're experiencing this problem you will also hear a rattling sound when you shake your controller.
What happens is that this grey little clip breaks on the side of the analog sensor. That little clip holds that white piece in place and without it it slips around causing that grinding noise.
This isn't my video, but it's the only one I found that explains it.
What you have to do is Gorilla Glue that clip back in place on the side of the analog sensor.
If the clip is destroyed (like mine) when you take the controller apart you'll have to Gorilla Glue something little and plastic on each side of the white piece. I used Zip Ties and really little pliers to hold them in place while the glue dried. You can either pre-cut the zip ties or shave them flush with a razor blade after the glue dries.
The whole process only takes a few minutes and it beats spending $60 on a new controller.
Here is a tutorial on how to take the controller apart. As long as you have a really small flat head screw driver you won't need the specialty T-8 torx bit to take the controller apart.
