Guess how much UFC fighters can bench press?

I love the bench press. The pump one can get from the barbell bench is fantastic, but I do believe it is not a great focus for MMA.

The core of MMA training (swings, turkish get ups, battling ropes, piston press, rows, isometric holds) are all exercises that do not emphasize pec development. Perhaps it’s a waste to build oxygen depleting muscular mounds in any area of the body.

Reem only 330? LOL I can bench that and his arms are twice the size of mine.

Stipe - 315
DC - 330
Ngannou - 405
Overeem - 330
Lewis - 365
Yoel - 315
Rockhold - 275
Bones - 295
Tank Abbot - 550
I call BS on most of these numbers.

It's not that I dont think these fighters are strong, just that most don't focus on Bench Press and most also don't have exactly what we would call prestine form lol.

I'm 6ft6 and around 280lbs. I fight, but I'm a kickboxer so I'm not making weight at 265lbs.
When I'm injury free and lift the barbell, the only thing that makes me feel remotely more powerful for crossing over (as far as barbells are concerned) are squats (ass to grass), deadlifts and some kind of clean or clean and press.
It is very hard to maintain lifting strength and not compromise my work rate immensely.
It's easier to get moderately close to powerlifting strong as long as I'm happy to be a one round k.o king but I never want to be the guy doubled over for oxygen after 3 minutes.
I bench 396 to powerlifting pause standard. During my boxing/kickboxing training, which is 11 months of the year, I'm lucky to hit 308. Same with squats and deads. Absolute strength is fussed over here, really bad, as we saw in the John Jones deadlift thread.

I get the obsession that SD has with fighter lifting strength. It fills some kind of obscure delusion that is very American and maybe slightly a little less, but Western.
It's the same with Hollywood actors. "I bet he could be a professional athlete" or "such and such benched 400lb for his *insert Marvel* role".
It's fanboydom and hope that your favourite fighter is also some kind of all around superhero. But weight lifting for MMA is so far different from general powerlifting or bodybuilding that sometimes I lose my mind at some of the stupid shit people come out with on here.
It is hard to maintain strength while training for combat sports. I also box(casually) and I had to stop training weights completely because I had to focus on cardio. I’m a beginner so I still don’t have the energy or time to be able to do everything so I just focus on cardio.

thats my picture and I’d be glad to prove it. If you think some dude who types in bold on an Internet mma fan forum is going to shame me for the way I look (which I’m damn fucking handsome) then you’re the shit poster. You’ve got a woman with a snake in her ass as your av, kid.

Secondly, no one the size of Romero is “lucky to put up those numbers” regarding benching 315. It’s not a ton of weight, especially for a 215 lb man who is extremely muscular and clearly strong as an oxe. Why are you picking a bone with me? Don’t fucking bother
315 pounds is a ton of weight son...most pro basketball player, nfl backs, and amateur wrestlers don't bench that

Strong as a ox and 215 pounds?....you still aren't seeing the difference between gym strength and physical strength....pudz won world strongest man 4 times and still gets man handled in wrestling/grappling and clinch exchanges
I'm writing this shit in bold...yet the point still isn't getting across to you....learn<Lmaoo>

Don't bother replying back(i won't reply)....just educate yourself kid so you don't come off as so ignorant

And who is shaming you by the way?(stop projecting)
Vain and superficial people post their own face a A/V...men who are secure wouldn't have to worry about how handsome they are

Bud, you’re not gonna just state b.s. as fact. Most nfl backs push 225 15-25 times. They max 315 easily. Basketball players are not only not known for power lifts, but certainly aren’t for musculature, and don’t have the proportions to be great at bench. Why are you acting like I’m some naive idiot? Because I have a join date later than yours? Get over yourself. You’re wrong. Every gym has a handful 9-5ers that max 315. Hell, when I was in high school there were 4 17 year olds on my team that hit that.

Now, keep editing your posts in bold and talk to people in a degrading way so that you can assume superiority while everyone else rolls their eyes at you because you’re damn fool.

I would think that close grip bench press is more important.

Also I think strongman is by far more functional for MMA than powerlifting.

So you think the numbers are BS because they seem too high, while others think the numbers are BS because they seem too low.

Im sure some of them are relatively accurate, but for the most part nah.

The bros on here don't understand the law of specificity very well.

My favorite thing about those thread is all the people that accept the TS claim with no source and then go on to rationalize it.

These are just my guesses anyways. I never said the

Keep in mind that NFL backs are LHW size usually. They are also higher tier athletes than UFC fighters by a large margin. They also do more training to maximize short burst power than UFC fighters who train more for endurance.

I know they are. I responded to someone who referenced that 315 max is good for an nfl back. It’s not bad, but it’s not good. An nfl rb should be hitting like 355+

Being able to randomly bench those numbers are really good.
It’s not like they consistently train the bench press.

I can bench press 315lbs but if I stopped bench pressing, overhead pressing, and other weight lifting and focused on mma style workouts for 6 months I highly doubt I’d be able to randomly come back and do it at will.....even if I didn’t lose any muscle.
