I liked his takedowns more. GSP had some good g'n'p though. I loved that left hook/double leg combo. that was slick.
GSP dominated on the ground. What is that if not grappling. He got half guard at will and pushed the pace such that Serra never even made a credible submission attempt.
I still think Serra is overrated for MMA BJJ. I've just never seen him do well in grappling against a top opponent and especially against other grapplers.
I didn't see the Jeff Curran fight though, I know it went to decision, did anybody see it?
There was very little ground work in that fight. BJ defended all but 1 takedown and got back to his feet quickly. BJ scored a couple takedowns and didn't do much with them. The entire fight was basically striking and Serra trying to take BJ down.did you see him against BJ Penn at lightweight? he lost a razor thin decision.
not really... GSP was much bigger and just bullied him... didn't outgrapple him, he was in half guard the whole time, he only passed after elbowing Serra's cranium in for a long time..
Got his back with hooks? I don't remember that. He was on Serra's side while he was turtled a couple times, but he never took Serra's back if I recall correctly. He actually passed to side mount twice, got his back a few times, and also had knee on belly momentarily.

He impressed me in the loss, mainly because after that I think he can beat hughes.
I LOL at the people who just yesterday said "Serra is one of the greatest american blackbelts," and "GSP is a whitebelt compared to Serra" still can say that GSP didnt dominate him, after serra did dick all from his back which, and I quote, is a place from which he is "very dangerous." I see some people saying that it wasn't great grappling, yet, look at the result.
This is utterly disrespectful to GSP and his efforts, and indicative of a wild disparity between some people's perceptions and motives, and the reality of the situation.
Serra wasnt able to sweep him, serra wasnt able to even come close to a sub, and anytime serra tried to do something, GSP negated him. Be it with strength, wrestling, jiu jitsu or some combination of the aforementioned, it happened. All of those things are grappling, and you're just taking away from an incredible accomplishment in dominating such a champion of international, and american Jiu-Jitsu.
Serra was out-grappled last night, and there is no two ways about it. It's hypothetical at best to say that GSP wouldnt have done the same had he not been allowed to punch or elbow him.
All I'm saying is that Serra's a great fighter, but(or rather I should say "especially NOW")you have to give GSP his dues.

I agree, he took a Renzo Gracie Blackbelt to school and made him pay tuition.
Great line!! GSP's ground game looked great!!! He positioned himself great, always follwed Serra's hips, kept his arms in and together to prevent arm bars and trinalges....AND mamaged to beat the hell out of him.......brilliant!
I ain't turnin down nothin but my collar!
