So after taking a look at both of their records I noticed somthing. Silva and GSP fought at back to back events (UFC 111 and 112) and both fought opponents who did not deserve a title shot (Hardy and Maia). Am I the only one who thinks that this would have been the perfect time to make this fight? You could have put Mir vs Carwin on 112 and have GSP vs Silva at 111. Do you guys agree with this and how do you think the fight would have gone at this time?

it was going to happen but because of Anderson's clowning around the fight didn't get put together

Silva was supposed to fight Belfort. Maia was a late replacement.
Your theory falls apart from there.

Before blown out knees and a broken leg eh? Could have been fun, I'd like to think George would have the grappling advantage. Can't count Silva out though, I think GSP would have taken a beating but would do enough to steal a controversial decision.

gsp could have made that fght happen he chose to fight such titans of the sport like Thiago Alves and DAn Hardy.

I remember when Pacquiao lost which killed the hype for the Mayweather fight. Lorenzo then tweeted that you need to "strike while the iron is hot", and then hashtagged #GSP/Silva #Silva/Bones. Yeah...about that.

Silva via ...UD....GsP being to timid...and not able to get the takedown(knees are shot)

Don't lump Alves in with Hardy.

At the time, Alves was the top contender in the division (save for Fitch).

There were opportunities to make the fight every year from 2010-2013 but they always went in another direction. If Conor was in GSP's position the fight would have been made.

That's BS. The UFC just used that as an excuse not to make the fight… I mean… C'mon dude: "Oh we're going to sacrifice millions just to 'punish' Anderson"… GTFO Dana lol…

Dana has been making excuses not to put that fight together for years. GSP has had his fair share including 'claiming' Anderson was cutting from 230lb lol. At the end of the day, you can point to a million reasons why that fight was never made, but not a single reason can be blamed on the Spider.

If Gsp didn't injured his knee after 129, that fight would probably have been made.

Silva fought Okami not too long after.

Alves at the time looked like a world beater. KO Karo, KO Lytle, KO Koscheck, KO Hughes. In all fairness he wasn't an "easy" opponent.

They never came to an agreement. Both didnt want to move from their weight class & wanted big . Dana's cheap ass is to blame for no superfight. GSP would've took him down at will

As much as I liked Silva back in the day, I think GSP would get a 5-round decision over Anderson. He's got the wrestling accumen and wouldn't get subbed.

Belfort fell out of the fight before UFC 111 happened from what I remember. Only reason Maia got the fight is because Sonnen and Nate just fought.

Yes but remember a few things.
1. The 2 fights Silva got out wrestled in his prime he had injuries. The lutter fight he was 6 weeks out from knee surgery and spotted limping in the back. The Sonnen fight he had a broken rib the first time.

2. Silva is bigger and stronger.

3. He has the conditioning to be a threat all 5 rounds.

Indeed, which is why I wanted to see the fight!

hes gone 4-4 since the gsp fight and truthfully he lost that fight to seth baczunski and Jordan Mein was beating the fucking piss out of him before gassing and getting caught. THat was an EPIC comeback by thiago but he looked completely lost in that fight and threw some hail mary shit.

My point is that Thiago isnt a good fighter at all. His wins were against guys all on their way out or down.

Koscheck had a day to prepare for that fight he stepped im fpr someone I forgot who.
Karo never won a ufc fight after that and has been absolute bat crazy shit since 2008.
Hughes was already close to 40 and done.
Lytle is a warrior always was a tough fight cant shit on that win at all.

Alves was never that good.

Now is the best time for GSP to make that fight. That would be an awesome ufc200 treat. Silva is now inactive enough to give GSP a real chance to beat him.

And it hurts me to say that..... but it's true....

Hindsight is 20/20.

Back when Alves fought GSP 6 years, yes Alves was a legit contender.
