GSP vs Condit

Good fight.

Great build up with GSP making his return after knee surgery. It gave us one of the best primetime scenes:

Holy shit does that bring back awesome memories. This is when the UFC promotion was at its best. We have a big fight coming up next weekend. Where is the hype and promotion like this for that? Amazing.

All time great Condit lost to greatest of all time GSP.

We have particular instances in a career where a legacy can truly be enhanced.. This was a legacy enhancing Performance from GSP. Carlos felt he had a lot of advantages going in because of the layoff. GSP went and showed his heart and shut him down.

GSP had clearly slown down since his torn ACL

It’s funny I didn’t really notice it until the Diaz fight. That is when I saw he was slower. Showing his heart, still great technique but noticeably slower. It’s amazing after four years out he was able to defeat the legit middleweight champion. 4 years slower and he still got it done.

Very exciting fight. Great story leading up to it, could GSP come back from a major injury and still defend the belt against all these young lions? First GSP defense where I was torn, as I'm a massive fan of both guys. Condit put up a fight and never stopped trying to win, evn hurting GSP with that slick head kick out of nowhere.

GSP's reign was really something special. It's a shame some people don't appreciate it and just say lnp, when most of the fights were actually pretty exciting. I'll give you the Hardy fight, but the rest were pretty great.

He's slowed down, but his timing is still there. I think he'll look pretty good in his next fight without all that bulk he put on for MW. I really want him to just win one more big fight and then retire.

He will.. 155 IMO 3 division champ..

Showed how great GSP is off his back, can't keep him down even when stunned

I'm hoping for a fight by the end of this year. When do you think he'll come back?

Keep a close eye on that November MSG card. I think something will come of it. Negotiations With McGregor and the UFC continue to go nowhere. The next biggest fight to be made is GSP.

Condit has perhaps the worst TDD in MMA history.

Condit was tailor made for GSP to decision.

It’s between Condit and Shogun for worst TDD in the UFC imo. Condit is probably the worst, though. It’s like he never even practiced TDD in his life. I understand he’s confident on his back, but.. shit.. you’d think he would’ve improved at least a little after Georges, Hendricks, etc. Anderson’s was pretty shit for awhile, too, but he went and worked on it and ended up with very good TDD, overall. Fuck, I bet my TDD is better than Condit’s ffs, yours likely is, too. How can it be that bad and stay that bad? Makes no sense.

I could never really be a Condit guy for some reason. Not saying I hate him, it's just I've always felt he was a tad bit overrated.. Not the God some people here make him out to be.

Great fight. Also great to see Winklejohn vs Zahabi as a coach match-up.

Condit isn’t really known for his great top control, lol. If I’m remembering correctly - Condit didn’t really try to control Georges at all since he had him hurt. He was being so aggressive with strikes on top that it gave Georges room to escape. Even If Condit did try to establish top control I believe Georges would’ve got up just as easily.

He would’ve muscled his way out. One thing I really enjoyed after Georges was hurt, was when he got back to his feet and started swinging bombs back at Carlos. He did the same against Hendricks, too. He got hurt a few tikes but each time he would throw really hard shots/combos back. We all know, Georges is not a risk taker and he’s even said so himself.

But for some reason he took some very, very big risks against Condit and Steakhouse Johny, by throwing back very aggressively after being stunned quite badly. It doesn’t sound like much because tons of fighters do this. They get hurt but they still fire back. The thing is that Georges tried to do this against Serra, only to end up having his head drilled into the mat (then got hated on for tapping..? lame ‘fans’ of this sport).

I was shocked to see him take the same risk against Condit n Johny immediately after he was stunned. It’s quite admirable, in my opinion. Still glad he got the decision over Steakhouse Johny - also known as Lord of the Onion Rings, The Texas Coleslaw Mass-Eater, Hot Sauce Hendricks and finally: Johny Tabasco (Donnie Brasco obv).

It was a very good fight.

While GSP did dominate, never felt like Condit gave up and obviously very close to finishing GSP at one point.

Also showed off GSPs heart and ability to recover.

Gave us this great image too:

All that lay and pray, pee shertards.

I was actually just about to post the opposite and say that I agree with @JudoThrowFiasco
Condit is similar to Shogun in that he isn't known for securing takedowns but he has shown a strong top game. You might be right about him not really trying to control GSP. I haven't watched the fight in years and I don't really remember exactly what happened when GSP hit the ground. However, Condit definitely does have a good top game that he has shown after knocking opponents down or sweeping them. The most memorable example of it was when he pounded out the late TKO on Rory, but there have been a lot of other instances as well.

Saw this fight live in MTL. Crazy night..the place felt like an earthquake hit it when GSP entered the arena. What a crazy entrance. This was also the night that Hendricks KOd Kampmann, Hendricks seemed unstoppable back then.
