Throwback GSP vs Bisping revisited

Even when GSP steps up in weight and finishes the champ in a methodical fashion, people still want to find ways to downplay it.

If anything, it probably highlights how shallow MW really was. GSP hadn't finished a fight at WW in years.
Middleweight was actually a shark tank at the time with Romero, Jacare, Whittaker, Weidman, Rockhold, Mousasi, Lyoto, Vitor, Anderson, Hendo, Brunson and others. Bisping struck gold in his late notice fight with Rockhold. GSP chose that matchup and I can't blame him. Not surprised we never saw GSP fight Romero or Whittaker. Those would have been dangerous matchups for GSP who was out for four years

Don't think there's anything wrong with people being impressed by the win nor calling it a cherry picked win.

As simple pure entertainment I love watching it.

MW may well have been a shark tank. But Bisping had defeated several of those ‘sharks’ in a row and was undisputed lineal champ.

Then he met a bigger shark.

Two eyes Bisping obviously would have done better, but you also need to keep in mind that GSP had been away from the sport for 4 years at the time when they fought.

Bisping could've beaten Jon Jones because he would have 50% invincibility vs eye pokes
That’s not true! Jones would have only needed to use half as many fingers to blind Bisping. Be realistic in your analysis!

Watching it again in full for the first time in years, I'm surprised with how competitive it was. I somehow remembered it GSP having a huge advantage of being able to takedown Bisping at will, which was true but wasn't exactly how it played out.

GSP took his time with the first takedown, he seemed really confident with his standup. Freddie Roach was in his corner which was so weird. After the first takedown he seemed gassed in the last 30 seconds for the first round. He said it himself after the fight that he would've like to have redone his diet leading up to his fight because he made mistakes in bulking up. GSP was gassed in the second round after the takedown as well. He had his hands down which kind of looked like a disaster for him at that point.

Round three starts and GSP took him down right away but Bisping was able to cut him, and as Rogan pointed out, Mike did more damage at the bottom than GSP did from top. When GSP was bloodied up, it seemed that Bisping could've taken over. When GSP knocked him down with the left hook, it was such an unexpected move at that point, it actually seemed lucky. And even after that Bisping was able to survive GSP's GnP, which was impressive as hell. Only when Bisping made the mistake of giving GSP his back was when he had the fight sealed and not really any moment prior like I seemed to have remembered.

Bisping was able to land with the overhead right effectively, I think that if he had known that going in he could have faked throwing an overhand right but instead throw a right uppercut. That may have worked well in hindsight.

It's a miracle that he fought at all. Imagine visiting the bathroom 16-24 times a day shitting out your bleeding intestines, body breaking under the fatigue of a raging chronic inflammation. Its the kind of condition where you dont want to leave the house, or fight the MW champion in a mma fight.

who are these people talking so much shit?

GSP went up in weight class, after a 4 year lay off, and beat the de facto MW champion. Bisping legitimately earned it at that point.

to say otherwise, is a noob ass statement.

yea GSP didn't look like the WW phenom. he looked like a guy going up in weight class after 4 years.

he still beat bisping, it wasn't close from what i remember. GSP was always a step ahead.

it's so obvious that people here don't do anything physical at all, much less any combat sports training.

to go up in weight and get that win like that, over the champion is a crazy ridiculous feat.

I never rated this win tbh. Mike is a jack of all trades with zero wrestling and average bjj.

GSP could have randomly placed his finger in the top at the time and it would have been a tougher fight (except for Brunson)

  • Champion: Michael Bisping
  • #1: Luke Rockhold
  • #2: Chris Weidman
  • #3: Ronaldo "Jacaré" Souza
  • #4: Yoel Romero
  • #5: Anderson Silva
  • #6: Gegard Mousasi
  • #7: Robert Whittaker
  • #8: Vitor Belfort
  • #9: Derek Brunson
  • #10: Uriah Hall

The whole appeal of this fight was if Bisping sucked enough for GSP to get the MW belt

No different than Islam beating JDM, who absolutely isn't the best WW and I bet several WWs would beat him. Dude barely beat Kevin Holland and I am supposed to believe this dude was the best WW in the world? Nah, nope.

As a huge GSP fan, I always thought he looked like shit in that fight. I don't think his gas tank carried as well at that weight, he looked rusty after all that time off, plus just being older in general. It was great to see him win, but I'm really glad he completely retired after that.

Still the goat tho
