Media Grok has spoken....

Islam's never faced kidney failure due to avoiding 170.

Grok DKSAF apparently
Khabib was more dominant than Islam but yeah, he nearly died every time he made weight and wouldn't even consider trying out 170. Also Makhachev has faced a wider array of stylistic matchups, Khabib lucked out by facing striker after striker. MJ, Barboza, Poirier, Conor, Gaethje, Iaquinta etc.. RDA is a dcent grappler but we've seen him get manhandled many times since at 170 and Khabib was as big as a 170lber.

Chatgpt 4.5 says:

Islam Makhachev is the better MMA fighter overall.

Why (brief):

  • More complete skillset: Elite grappling and clearly better striking and submissions.
  • Adaptability: Wins in multiple ways (KOs, submissions, decisions).
  • Level of competition while active champion: Consistently beating top contenders in a deeper, more modern lightweight era.

Caveat:
Khabib has the greater legacy and dominance (29–0, aura, control). But if the question is who is better as a fighter, skill-for-skill → Islam.

But most importantly, I don't really think AI belongs in MMA discussion. I just don't think it's quite good enough right now.

Khabibs scalps are worth more name value, but that's where it tapers off to me. Islam uses that left RHK so effortlessly in concert with his punching/clinching, definitely the better striker while khabib has the more effective cage grappling

Sure... I totally LISTEN to AI.
Why not, he makes good music
