Social Greta Thunberg Megathread

Funny how that is with the left they whine about people who call out liberal bullshit.... this thread delivers.

People are focusing on group a and b in this situation but what about group c, which is made up of people who take climate change seriously but also think teenagers are retarded in general and don't really want to hear them droning on, even if they're Swedish.

lol this thread is like arguing with a brick wall. When you refute and disprove the lies they're posting they shut up for a minute. And then 2 pages later just go right back to repeating it. It really is futile.

Also, Devout Pessimist doesnt actually claim to be a Christian. He just really hates leftists and atheists so he fetishizes pious iconography.

I am a Catholic.

She needs to sail to India and China if this is about making a difference in climate change.

They signed up for Paris. We are the monsters here not there. Disguisting that conservatives have the balls to pretend that we are pulling the weight of fighting climate change when we are the main obstacle to said fight.

Reducing emissions > signing a paper

Just because she's a child doesn't mean she has nothing worth to say. She's going to be an adult in 7-8 years. I respect her views even if she's a child. Some children are ahead of their age when it comes to maturity. I believe she's one of them.

Based on what? Other than reading prepared speeches. Whether she wrote them or not isn't the point I'm trying to make. Did she graduate college at 14, done some type of groundbreaking research etc. Im just curious what gives people this assumption thats she a child prodigy.

Anyone who echoes the lefts views is a prodigy in their eyes. This girl has bigger issues and climate or “ collapsing” ecosystems isn’t one of them..

Ive looked everywhere, and i cant find a single thing that makes her an expert on the subject. Its like some leftists are moths to a spotlight.

To be fair Trump isn't an expert on immigration, law, foreign affairs, the environment, global economics, or plenty of other things. Why do we listen to him on those things?

Same can be said for Obama. Would you have looked at some republican kid talking about the dangers of the Iran Nuclear Deal and its potential dangers?

lol just read in this week's Economist that China, of all countries, is being heralded as some sort of hero in this matter since they reduced their CO2
emissions a fraction of a percent. BUT, they concede that those emissions will continue to rise at a reduced rate and not peak until 2030.
I've been to China, the pollution is unbelievably bad.
Why is the US always portrayed as the biggest offender in this equation?

I got you, that's a fair point. I think it's fair for her to fight for something to be done about it, she's not writing the policy itself.

I wouldn't call a 16 year old a child, but I wouldn't call them an expert in anything either. I think she has a right to her voice if it resonates with people. The real discussion is what is she wrong about.

It's not at all. China is obviously the worst, everyone knows India has serious issues as well. No one said they don't have issues and no one said the US is the worst offender.

Well, the domestic diatribe about this NEVER mentions other countries. Sure, the US should be committed to an agenda but let's recognize and demonize
the worst offenders first.

So what do we do? Ignore it domestically until we wage a war with China to make them change? Are we the world police?

Did you read my post? Commitment to change.
And yes, apparently we are supposed to be the world police by example and coercion.
The US has always been portrayed in this manner, unfairly IMO.

She's 16, she looks 10 because she has some kind of disease. Wiki says she stopped eating for a while due to her mental problems, that's an explanation of why she's shorter than 5'(Swedish women are around 5'6").
There is a common fallacy called an ad hominem argument. In other words, you shouldn't dismiss an argument because the person uttering it is bad, not an expert etc. Of course, that's in pure logic, in practice you shouldn't listen to bums.
About Thunberg, I don't really care she's not an expert, I was willing to listen to the argument and it's not an argument at all. She is just saying we should do something because global warming is bad.
I guess that's true but what? Let's all stop using fossil fuels? Let's stop modern agriculture and cultivate the fields with oxen? Let's just allow nature to take over?

It looks like a case of mass hysteria, a bunch of people are concerned about something, they don't know how to solve it and decided to follow a mentally unstable kid as their savior.
