I remember a recent newspaper article about a kid who "is a veteran of the modern war for social justice. He seethes with anger over the lack of equity in our society. He has laid down in chalk outlines in the streets of Ferguson. He has chained himself to his fellow protesters to block roadways only to be cut loose and detained by police. He is eight years old."

At a certain point, people need to recognize what is going on with these kids and decry the parents. Even as a kid, I could tell whose parents were choosing their class project topics for them. That's fine. That's raising a kid with the values you hold dear. What's not okay is exploitation of kids (and even putting them in danger) to futher personal goals and/or self-aggrandize.

One of the most poignant and memorable lines I've read on Sherdog over the years (on a somewhat related topic) was "This is like vegan pet food. I know who's really made the decision here and it's fundamentally wrong."

The "Hole" in the Ozone was a media frenzy spook story. The "Hole" hasn't improved or gotten worse in the last 30 years and wasn't even caused by humans.

There is a nomenclature problem. Ozone is a gas(duh), it's everywhere in the atmosphere but it's less dense in some parts, it appears as a hole in fake color pictures but it's more like a thinning of ozone in certain regions.
There is a natural hole around the poles, something to do with temperature makes ozone less concentrated there.
CFCs do attack Ozone and after people started using it for everything the concentration of ozone declined worldwide and the so called hole enlarged.
CFCs are magical compounds, safe, inert, can be used for firefighting, aerosol cans, refrigeration but they have that problem and have been replaced wherever possible. Concentrations of ozone stabilized by the 90s and are going up nowadays.
Of course, the media prefers a scary story than the scientific facts, the depletion of ozone wasn't going to kill everybody but it's a bad thing and after replacements were found CFCs were phased out worldwide, even the Chinese stopped using them. War tanks still use Halon to fight fires inside the crew compartment because it's so effective but there is just no need to have every damn fridge in the world filled with the original Freon when Hydrofluocarbons(HFCs) are just as good.

Thomas Midgley Jr. American chemical engineer. He was a highly skilled engineer and made a lot of money. That man was the one that pushed successfully for the introduction of lead(!) in gasoline and the use of CFCs in refrigeration. Poisoning millions of people and destroying the ozone layer at the same time, although to be fair it wasn't known that CFC was bad during his lifetime. Lead was already a known toxic substance and he went around the country inhaling leaded gasoline to prove it was safe which caused him to get severely sick but he hid it from the public.
When he was 51 he got polio, as the restless genius he was he then developed a system of ropes and pulleys to help him out of bed, he ended up strangling himself by accident on the ropes.

Reminds me of the mom that adopted a bunch of kids and drive them around the country to go to protests and get photo ops. Then, she drive them over a cliff, killing them all.

But like many have pointed out, her parents and others are probably pressuring her to keep going and to stay in the public eye. The difference in the Covington kid and this girl is that the Covington kid didn't ask for it. This girl is 16 and speaking down to adults on the world stage.
