Greatest performance in all of sports history?

May not be at the top of the list, but Martin Truex Jr leading 392 out of 400 laps in the Coke 600 might be the greatest performance in the modern era of NASCAR.
Yarborough led all laps and won the 500 at Bristol back in the 70’s. Not sure which you’d consider more impressive.

Well that's why I said modern era. Ned Jarrett beat the field by 14 laps at Darlington many years ago. Those guys were just different back then. Cale, Pearson, etc... The performance you mentioned deserves to be on the list for sure.

Sorry missed your modern reference!

No explanation needed on this one. Free soloing El Cap in under four hours is just completely absurd.

There are quite a few other amazing climbing/mountaineering feats that probably deserve a thread of their own.

Jeff Burton lead every lap at New Hampshire once. I think he nearly did it at Michigan too, but its been a long time, may not have been him. Makes for a boring race, but impressive none the less.

Brady's comeback in Superbowl LI against the Falcans has to be at the top IMO. I mean, nobody has ever done anything like that in the Superbowl and i doubt it will happen again anytime soon.

Oh and even though it was a series, the 2004 Boston Red Sox comeback against the Yankees after going 0-3 to start was insane and then going on to win the world series.

Buster Douglas defeat of Mike Tyson. I've watched the fight at least 20 times. Remember T y son was unbeatable and dominant. I later read the book about the fight and I recommend it. Tyson basically didn't train. Unbelievable still to this day. Also im not a soccer guy but Brazil hosted the world cup and got killed by Germany at home. It was pretty bad.

Also the red sox coming back on the Yankees was a huge shock. I assumed once they got to game 7 Boston was going to do the usual and never beat the Yankees. Not only did they beat them but easily did game 7. As a mets fan I still laugh at this. I remember being nervous cause I really wanted Boston to win but figured they wouldn't. Great night.

Shogun winning the 2005 Pride GP....

He beat Rampage , Lil Nog , Overeem and Arona in a span of 4 months...

Probably, Jokic leading this season in rebounds, assist and almost scoring 30 a game or in baseball Ohtani leading the league in home runs while being an all-star level pitcher, near cy young level. Both of these are impressive to me as you have people being world best at very different skill sets within the same sport I will never see another guy like Jokic or Ohtani in my lifetime.

Ohtani's performance in that game was great, but was it even the greatest performance from a pitcher in baseball history? Was that better than throwing a perfect game in the World Series or a no-hitter with 2 home runs?

I don't think we need to consider Brady's 7 super bowls. I think we only need to look at his last one for an all time great performance. At 43 years old and 20 years in the NFL, he goes to Tampa Bay, a team that hadn't been to the playoffs in over a decade and hadn't won a playoff game in nearly 2 decades and wins the Super Bowl immediately. I consider that as great a performance as there has ever been.

Nice call out for Rick Wise.

Gets COMPLETELY forgotten about.
