Greatest of All Time update

Also, let me mention that there is a definite anti-lower weight class bias

look at a guy like Dominick Cruz, he's the BW GOAT and has four defenses on his Zuffa title

yet there are many willing to put Cruz behind say... a guy like Rashad.

conversely I have seen people put a guy like Shogun (who is without a doubt a legend and one of the Greats), in their GOAT top 5 ahead of guys in the lower weight classes who were equally dominant but don't have Shogun's aura because they were lower weight class fighters

If you would listen to Sharkboy, someone like Cruz or Aldo shouldnt even be mentioned before someone like Bader, because Bader would beat them because he outweighs them by 60-80lbs, and therefore he is the better fighter who should be ranked higher.

See, this is what I meant. No way in hell is that a real opinion, based on an open-minded evaluation. It's just Fedor love, all over your face, down your chin.

Not only is Anderson a better fighter but he'd destroy Fedor if they fought in their primes, despite any size difference.

Lol.. Im a huge anderson fan, but fedor would toss him and smother him, the strength difference would be too much for spider

amazing how many votes silva got after a loss

While I don't personally consider Anderson the GOAT (I voted for GSP), I agree with this.

One loss should not suddenly erase a man's entire career.

On the flipside, a lot of Anderson fans were saying (Prior to the loss) that it was ridiculous to say anybody OTHER than anderson was the GOAT. When Anderson lost they piled all of the blame of the people shifting opinions from Anderson to whoever else on the one loss. But I believe that given how impressive Anderson's win streak is, it shouldn't change too much. If people were arguing against Anderson being the GOAT after the loss, it's because there were always legitimate arguments against Anderson being the GOAT , but nobody had the balls to say them for fear of getting shat on.

Your logic is totally flawed. The best football/basketball players are not the biggest. MJ was only 6'6''. Same in football, the best players not the biggest.

Fedor himself was beat by a guy who fought at MW. We've seen time and time again in this sport that size doesn't make a huge difference. So you are the one that is guilty of romanticizing MMA.

Here is the nail in the coffin to your HW romanticizing. Within HW we see 20-25lbs differences in fighters, and often times the lighter of the two fighters wins. It would stand to reason that going the other way (a HW fighting a LHW or LHW fighting a MW) the lighter fighter could win as well. It's all about skills, technique, and athleticism.
no your reading comprehension is FLAWED

I never said the biggest were the best, I was just saying size does matter and the best fighters generally are HW's if mma were to be openweight, just like being somewhat tall has a slight tendency to favor you if you want a basketball career. Do you think the average MBA player is the same height as your average man?

Don't call me out on logic when you fail to interpret what I wrote correctly

there are a lot more people out there that could beat Aldo, GSP, etc than could beat Prime Fedor, Cain, JDS. That's my point.

GOAT is 'greatest of all time' not 'pound for pound' and it's not 'greatest....for their size'

Anderson Silva was beaten by a guy who fought at LW.

Anderson was a WW when he lost to Takase, and Fedor lost to someone who had to drink water to make the 207lbs minimum and is a natural MW, probably could have made 170 with a good weightcut(hey if Abedi,Alves,Thatch and Lim can make 170, dont tell me Hendo cant)

Fedor. The length of his run and the amount of devastating wins he had over great opponents has yet to be matched, and I seriously doubt that it will be for a looooong time.

Anderson with fedor as a close second... im a huge GSP fan but thats just the way it is

So?

Anderson Silva beat the guy who beat Fedor who fought at MW

MMAth

Takase and Chonan have 26 losses combined. MMAth is something you want to avoid if you're making an argument in favor of A. Silva.

Dan Henderson is an option?? And he got votes??

I'm sorry he is a great fighter and a legend, but anyone who voted for him over Fedor, Andy, and Georges are delusional.

I voted Andy but think there is a case for Fedor too. I think Silva HAS to win the Weidman rematch or else Fedor could be thrown back in front. GSP is right on both of their heels.

I love Hendo but I didn't know he was in this conversation.

It's incredible how big Fedor's impact on the sport was really. Not surprised at all to see him #1 still in the majorities mind.

GSP's argument for the spot of GOAT may get a lot stronger in the next year.

Wanderlei Silva should be on this list before Henderson.

Hendo's a weird case.

He was never overly dominant in any weight class, yet he was always able to beat some of the best fighters in those divisions.

Hendo really has fought a who's who in this sport, more than any other fighter.
