Greatest of All Time update

With all the Zuffa hype it's nice to see Fedor is still regarded as the greatest fighter this sport has seen.

The poll would look very different if redone. GSP would be ahead of Anderson and Fedor would have an even larger margin.

Probably Fedor, but it's close between him and Silva. Considering his amazing record and quality of opponents, it would undoubtably have been GSP, if only he had fought with the same urgency later in his career as he did in the beginning.

I think it's all arguable, but it's nice that Fedor is starting to get some respect again, after his string of losses right before he retired. People were calling him a phony and a can crusher.

Now that St Pierre and Silva have shown mortality, I think it's all being brought into a better perspective. Aging and wear and tear are a real thing, not just something that happens to inferior fighters.

People change their opinion based on the freshest memory in their mind - At the end of the day in 10 years time people just look back on records and highlight reels and form an opinion from there.

As a growing sport in 20 years time Anderson's impact on MMA will always have him in discussions for GOAT as will Fedor.

It beats me how Hendo is even considered among goats.

He is, at best, an all time top 10-20.

Hendo is the most accomplished fighter in MMA history.

- He was never dominant

- Tons of controvertial wins, including a lot of his best "victories"

- Mostly boring fighter, except when on trt. After he started the treatment, he became a h-bomb machine.

Most fighters would get a lot of shit for having only one of those three mentioned points. But he gets away with all of them.

It is somewhat satisfying to see people change their tune on Fedor now.

Nobody is immune to aging; not the Pride guys, not the UFC champs, and certainly not the 'new breed'.

Other- Royce Gracie. How is he not on here? The freaking giant killer. The man that beat legends like Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn when they were 50-80lbs heavier.

Beats getting subbed by Takase, Chonnan, decisioned by Azeredo and KO'd by Weidman.

No it doesn't, the 3 fights he lost were at the beginning of his career, when he was green. He destroyed Hendo and choked him out, and Hendo a natural MW KO'd Fedor inside a round. No shame in losing to Weidman in my opinion, but that first fight was odd, he really clowned around and paid the price. The second fight, he struggled in the first round and then that awful injury took place in the second round.

Anderson is still GOAT. Fedors best wins are Cro Cop, Nog, Herring and Coleman, that's it.

Fedor didn't even clean out the hw division while in Pride. He never fought Alistair, Barnett, Werdum (in Pride), Kharitonov, etc.

You are a new age fan who does not know that Overeem fought at 205 in Pride, that Barnett came over to Pride when Fedor had to sit out an injury and could not take part in the HW GP that CroCop won against Barnett and, finally, that Werdum was a young and green BJJ fighter at that time who only evolved into a more complete fighter just recently. Kharitanov and Fedor were on the same team for some time, but could have fought afterwards. This would have been a good fight.

Losing fights at the end of your career is more forgivable than at the beginning. What are Andy's best wins? They'll look equally mediocre in a couple years.

Also, Fedor was owning Hendo until that weird KO happened. I'd love to see who you'd put money on today if they rematched.

Vitor Belfort, who's fighting for the MW title in 2014, Hayato Sakurai who was labelled the number one P4P fighter at the time Anderson beat him. Dan Henderson, who KO'd Fedor. Rich Franklin, Chael Sonnen. Nate Marquardt was also great at the time.

Fact is he's not the champ. He vacated his title.

You probably believe Hamill defeated Jones too because his record says so.

GSP tucked tail and ran from the sport after being delivered a beating.

At least Fedor retired on a highlight reel knockout win.

So basically what you are saying it's you're stupid .
According to your "logic" fedor can't be consider the goat since he took his tail and ran to Russia to fight for his buddy and "ducked' the UFC and never rematch his 3 loss ....in a row .
GSP could have decide to face some grade F bozo and get a highlight reel last moment but not he faced a strong contender he beat in a close fight but a close fight he won . He vacate the title , he didn't lose it .
Jones even tho he mauled Hamill sadly has that loss to his record .
Is it a real loss ? Sadly yes . Should he got a win instead ? Sadly no since he broke the rules he agreed too . Jones obviously. Better than Hamill and that DQ loss is a lot different than a KO/sub loss .

My opinion is :
GSP = GOAT . Silva and Fedor = Runner up GOAT
Fact is ...yeah there's no fact when it come to GOAT it's purely subjective based on who you like most .

And that beating was mostly cosmetic damages . 2 days after the beating those "damages" were gone . Hendricks still has a broken knee .
Deal with it and keep on hating .

At the end of the day, make this poll in ten years.

I can almost guarantee Anderson would lead the poll, due to the mark he left on the sport, and the highlight reels he produced. Fedor as well, but GSP not so much in my opinion.

There won't ever be someone like Anderson Silva competing again unfortunately.

UFC Anderson is just half of the tale, which was the great half. The other half is the Pride Anderson and his losses to Chonan and Takase in is prime. The Weidman losses don't count that much to his GOAT question, since they were to the end of his career. Anderson was not there anymore mentally as stated after Weidman 1. Only DFW bullied him into fighting again.
