Definitely Fedor 1st, Andy 2nd, GSP 3rd
I think it's all arguable, but it's nice that Fedor is starting to get some respect again, after his string of losses right before he retired. People were calling him a phony and a can crusher.
Now that St Pierre and Silva have shown mortality, I think it's all being brought into a better perspective. Aging and wear and tear are a real thing, not just something that happens to inferior fighters.
It beats me how Hendo is even considered among goats.
He is, at best, an all time top 10-20.
Hendo is the most accomplished fighter in MMA history.
Beats getting subbed by Takase, Chonnan, decisioned by Azeredo and KO'd by Weidman.
Fedor didn't even clean out the hw division while in Pride. He never fought Alistair, Barnett, Werdum (in Pride), Kharitonov, etc.
No it doesn't, the 3 fights he lost were at the beginning of his career, he destroyed Hendo and choked him out, and Hendo a natural MW KO'd Fedor inside a round. No shame in losing to Weidman in my opinion, but that first fight was odd, he really clowned around and paid the price. The second fight, he struggled in the first round and then that awful injury took place in the second round.
Anderson is still GOAT. Fedors best wins are Cro Cop, Nog, Herring and Coleman, that's it.
You are a new age fan who does not know that Overeem fought at 205 in Pride, that Barnett came over to Pride when Fedor had to sit out an injury and could not take part in the HW GP that CroCop won against Barnett and, finally, that Werdum was a young and green BJJ fighter at that time who only evolved into a more complete fighter just recently. Kharitanov and Fedor were on the same team for some time, but could have fought afterwards. This would have been a good fight.
Losing fights at the end of your career is more forgivable than at the beginning. What are Andy's best wins? They'll look equally mediocre in a couple years.
Also, Fedor was owning Hendo until that weird KO happened. I'd love to see who you'd put money on today if they rematched.
Fact is he's not the champ. He vacated his title.
You probably believe Hamill defeated Jones too because his record says so.
GSP tucked tail and ran from the sport after being delivered a beating.
At least Fedor retired on a highlight reel knockout win.
At the end of the day, make this poll in ten years.
I can almost guarantee Anderson would lead the poll, due to the mark he left on the sport, and the highlight reels he produced. Fedor as well, but GSP not so much in my opinion.
There won't ever be someone like Anderson Silva competing again unfortunately.
