Greatest kick thrown & landed in combat competition?

To me it definitely belongs in the argument, but I think you'd have to partially argue it was the greatest kick ever on the basis of the level of competition/the stakes, which seems counter to your position about the greatest football catch.

It's just so subjective to rate these things that they all belong more in "tiers" then just saying one is objectively better than another. If we broke them down into sub-categories some people might say:

Creativity = Buckley vs. Kasanganay
Difficulty = Pettis vs. Henderson
Fluidity = Barboza vs. Etim
Level of Competition = Silva vs. Belfort
Situation/Stakes = Leon vs. Usman 2

To be fair Pettis vs. Henderson could be first in all those categories depending on how you feel about things, so maybe it is the greatest kick of all-time! I think if it had given us a clean KO instead of a knockdown that didn't even lead to a finish it would without a doubt be considered the best one ever.

It's just kind of tough to give it that reward out-right without the finish coming from the kick (it just being a "round winning" kick that produced a knockdown) - it sadly loses some of the luster of it's memorability to say "the greatest kick of all-time" didn't KO someone and didn't even lead to a KO of someone. Again, all subjective opinion anyways.

Thanks for starting the thread, always fun to revisit some of the most epic moments of violence we've witnessed in decades prior and discus what made them special.
You need an award

Best I saw in person was Valentina to Jessica Eye . I was 5th row on floor saw an heard it - was crazy

Asking for greatness in MMA competition, it has to be Pettis or Holm because of the magnitude of the fights. If we just want really pretty kick, probably Barboza wheel kick or Anderson Silva front kick.

That's not top 1000 cause it's vs a soft guy. A UFC fighter wouldn't flop himself to the ground from that impact. Did look cool but it's karate.

Vs another soft opponent, the kick was on his body armor chest.

Edit : actually might be chin. This was recorded in 1980 on a baked potatoe.

It was round 5 in a title fight. Back and forth action. Fight of the year candidate. The scorecards were 2-2. The kick won him the round and the fight. Doesnt get much more insane than that.
sure it was cool looking but to rank it among the best kicks in history is a stretch considering that it was an all foot and no shin slap kick that did no damage.. also it did no damage.. and it did no damage.. bendo immediately was up afterwards and going for a take down because it did no damage.. also it did no damage... did i also mention it did no damage.. how can u call it 1 of the best kicks considering it did no damage tho.. all the gifs of it cut up early to mask the fact that it did no damage.. in an overrated boring fight it was the deciding factor in a snoozy decision cause it did no damage... hey wait how is this considered a good kick since it did no damage?

in case you didnt get that.. it did no damage and just caused a non knockdown cause bendo was off balance. Curious to know how a kick that did zero damage gets rankd so highly...

the unwritten rule says in order to be ranked among the best kicks landed ever.. it must result in a full blown shadow realm KO.. or the very least a TKO. However the showtime kick did ya know... no damage.. how is it considered the greatest kick when all it did was win a round based completely on aesthetics... also it did no damage? By this logic of ranking a kick that did no damage just based off looking cool, then Fake Dubya dubya wrasslin drop kicks off the top rope should be considered here if shots that do no damage get counted (cept those actually hurt more than the shotime kick did)

no one has posted sean salmon against rashad?

and no, i mean the one thrown by sean.

Hornbuckle vs Gono, legit thought I witnessed a death in the ring

If it landed, it was thrown, obviously.

This kick absolutely was the most brutal.

Very few KOs have ever given me the immediate reaction of 'Oh fuck he's dead.'
Tony went down like he got shot. This is IMO one of the most violent KO's ever. I think to myself, I'd never want a KO like this to happen to me.
