Greatest boxer ever?

Marciano was legit, but I don't know man...he got some gift decisions toward the end of his career.

GOAT = "Sugar" Ray Robinson

How do you figure that ?......Marciano won 6 of his last 7 fights (all championship bouts) by kayo..........Only Charles went the distance and he was clearly outpointed down the stretch.

Walcott KO 13 wins championship
Walcott KO 1 Defends championship
LaStarza KO 11 Defends Championship
Charles Dec 15 Defends Championship
Charles KO 8 Defends Championship
Don Cockell KO 9 Defends Championship
Archie Moore KO 8 Defends Championship

The only controversial bout I can think of with Marciano was his first LaStarza fight....a close fight by all accounts.

I think you've got the Rock mixed up with someone else.

Alexis Arguello....if Manny gets run on this, then he should too.

We need a Sherdog Hall of Fame.

I know I'm going to get the"OMG! IT WAS DIFFERENT BACK THEN!" crap. but it always stands out to me that Robinson has 25 fights on his record that he didn't win.

That'll be cause he had about 125 fights in total? just a guess lol

Manny Pacquiao

On what basis exactly ? He hasn't even beaten Hatten yet. So if Hatten wins does that mean Manny is shit or that Hatten is one of the greatest ever ?

If however he beats Hatten AND Mayweather then I definitely agree.:icon_chee

That is stupid.

Dis-agree AND HOW IS THAT STUPID ? Maybe you dis-agree but hardly should be called stupid for saying Foreman and Frazier out and Iron Mike in. How does Frazier rate above Iron Mike Tyson. Reasoning for that please ?

Iron Mike should definitely be a part of the list. When in his prime he was THE BEST.:icon_chee

Actually 200. But still... I wonder if Mayweather fought 200 times if 25 of those fights wouldn't be wins?

Frazier beating Ali > Anything Mike Tyson ever did

Mike Tyson was the best? Did you get this from his destruction of Micheal Spinks and Trevor Berbick...truly two of the best heavyweight champs ever, right? Or was it all the bums he beat before them?

I said he has as much right to be in the list as Frazier, but you obviously think Tyson was a poor fighter, Hmmm shut up retard!:icon_chee

The best 2 boxers overall ive ever seen were pernel whitaker and bernard hopkins. Mayweather has to be put in the same breath aswell.

It's hard and perhaps arbitrary to pick the best boxer ever. I think, however, that it's got to be one of these three - no one else can come close to their records!

Willie Pep: Record: 230-11-1, 65 KO's

Henry Armstrong - only fighter to hold three titles (featherweight, lightweight and welterweight) simultaneously
Record: 150-21-9, 101 KO's!

Sugar Ray Robinson: Record: 175-19-6, 109 KO's

Three good choices.......

A quick note on Armstrong........From May 31 1938 to Oct 4 1940, Henry defended the Welterweight title successfully 19 consecutive times.....That's 19 title defenses in less than 27 full months.....which averages out to be a title bout every 45 days for well over two years. Keep in mind it took Joe Louis over 11 years to gather up 25 defenses.

It's boxings equivalent to Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.....Folks often mention Henry's three simultaneous titles and forget about his string of defenses in so short a time.....A record which will never be broken.....

There is also such a thing called context.

The context being that Cal beat BH just before BH demolished Pavlik who most people were saying would demolish both BH and Cal lol

No way is BH above Cal. Cal owned that racist dude

The context there being that styles make fights, just because Cal won a close decision over BHop doesn't grant him a transitory smashing victory over Pavlik.

And obviously when discussing something like Greatest Ever the timing of victories is immensely important. I'm a big Joe fan, but the fact he beat RJJ and BHop so late in their respective careers does matter....it doesn't make the wins meaningless, but just because you beat someone doesn't automatically make your overall resume better than theirs. No one would argue Chester Slider is one of the best ever.

Joe is great, and one of top few P4P guys now, but RJJ's resume is better, even though I was cheering when Cal smashed him.
