They're Gen2. Does that make much of a deference in quality if they aren't Gen3?

I doubt it.

I have Gen 2 and 3 PMAGs and as long as you don't pour like mud in them they run fine. Just take them apart like once a year and spray them out with a can of compressed air to make sure there's no sand or grit.
