Grapplers Quest - Wayne NJ

Because the divisions go by time training and not belts? :) Anyways, this was my last grapplers quest in the intermediate division. Next one I should compete with the big boys... Should be fun!

Pathetic. I don't know any legit purple belt who would compete in the intermediate division, and I certainly don't know any legit purple belt who wouldn't win one if they did enter it. At most events, it's actually against the rules for purple belts to compete below advanced.

The no-gi division goes by time and not belts. I dont see what are you trying to accomplish here...

the number of months is there as a basic template. there are plenty of guys out there who have done jiu jitsu for over 2 years who would get absolutely creamed in the beginner division. then there are those who legitimately get their blue belts in half a year; they don't belong in the novice division. i think blue belts should compete in the intermediate division and that most purples should compete in the advanced.

I agree with you guys, but it's not like i've had my purple belt for 6 months... Like I said, this was the last intermediate grapplers quest I did.

Also, if the rules said that purples were suppose to compete on the advanced division I sure would, but there was no such thing on the rules, so I dont see what I did that was wrong... Maybe they should change the rules and start making the divisions by belts colors, since the time training doesnt really matter and its only a basic template.

I drove four hours to compete. I was there for 19 hours!

I achieved third in Men's No Gi Advanced and third in Gi.

GQ and NAGA don't require Purple Belts to enter Advanced, US Grappling does. But seriously, if you've been training 32 months and are a purple belt, you should've felt a little silly entering an intermediate division. Most people do consider that sandbagging, regardless of how often you train no-gi.

I hate when people say they are "x" belt but don't train no-gi and try to justify competing in a lower no-gi bracket. That is for pussies. Or when guys wrestled before and try to enter a beginner division. Super gay.

thats exactly why i did intermediate, i was way out of my time frame for training, but i had my blue for 4-5 months or so, and wanted the challenge

How were you there for 19 hours? I worked there and was there from 8:30 am to 10:00 PM when all the matches were done......

Your Blog states that you started your training in 2001..... then you took time off. Per the rules you HAVE to compete in the advanced division. It doesnt matter how long you think you have been training, you have been training for 7 years.

If I counted only the time that I have been on the mat since I started its not that long at all either, but thats the way it goes at the tournaments.
