Grand Moff Tarkin Out Ranks Vader?

yeah, he was Palpatine's bitch.

I get this idea but sith, from what I gather from the fan wiki, join the darkside knowing there can be only one and that a master with be usurped. Sidious knew it and Vader knew it. It is a transfer of power I guess.

I have a question nerds. Did Tarkin outrank Vader. You see scenes were he orders Vader.

Example 1. Vader is chocking a Admiral. Tarkin yells at him too release him at once. Vader does immediately.

Example 2. Leí tells Tarkin that she suspected of him holding Vaders leash.

Yes or No.

Tarkin was a high ranking political leader. Vader was a high ranking religious leader. Since the empire is a sith state, Vader's rank is higher. Think of it as something like the Iranian model with Ayatollahs and Presidents.

Some points about your two scenarios above: when Vader acquiesces, he does so as if he's indulging Tarkin. It's "As you wish" not "yes sir". Also Leia is being deliberately insulting. You can't draw much of a conclusion due to her obviously malicious intent

The Rule of One. There can be only one. An apprentice will become the master. In Episode III Anakin tried and failed to become the Sith Master later in Jedi he killed him and became the only Sith left. Fear and anger was his down fall from Episode I to Jedi and he finally conquered that fear and anger with the love for his son and daughter. He was no one's bitch.

I know I previously said no master but that was in error. He had no one he had to answer to even if the Emperor was "more powerful".

The Rule of Two. A Master and an Apprentice. One to embody the power and one to crave it.

Vader's probably outside the formal command structure to some degree. As others have said, his authority stems from the Emperor's and he functions more as an enforcer. So while he may not always have a ton of formal power, he always to an extent represents the will of the Emperor, so people listen.

The Rule of Two. A Master and an Apprentice. One to embody the power and one to crave it.

That rule never really made sense to me. Why would a power hungry sith master willing take on an apprentice knowing he'd be assassinated once his student becomes powerful enough. And further why would he even want to train his student for such a thing. It goes directly against his self interest.

No, the galatic empire was an empire, the sith worked in the shadows.

Vader was nothing but a jedi that remained loyal to the emperor in the eyes of the people.

A lot of you guys are making great points. Yeah sure seems like Vader was an enforcer and that he was likely respecting and following the command of Tarkin at the behest of the Emperor.

One thing that's worth noting is that when Tarkin is alive, Vader backs off before killing the doucher officer Motti. But in Empire Strikes Back, Vader is killing Imperial Officers who fail him with impunity.

yeah, and palpatine knew it too. Vader and Palps know that Vader will eventually take him out, but until then, he's the boss.

Vader was no one's bitch. When he stopped chocking the Admiral he said "As you wish." or "very well" or something of that sort in the most dismissive tone. They were equals in terms of leadership but Vader had one master.

Vader was never dismissive of Tarkin. Tarkin was one of the few people in existence that Vader actually respected.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rule_of_One

One Sith Lord and apprentices that do their bidding. "Challenging and slaying his usurper in a duel for control of the order and his strength proven to the Sith, Krayt resumed leadership of the One Sith unchallenged."

That's why Maul is a badass- went out on his shield fighting two Jedi.

Every other Sith I can think of got dummied by the other Sith..Palps ordering Anakin to kill Dooku, Palpatine encouraging Luke to kill Vader so he could take his place, Vader tossing Palpatine into the abyss, etc.

How could anyone say Star Wars is our galaxy when it explicitly says "IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY."

have some of you even seen the fucking movies.

and ET was put in as a nod to his buddy Spielberg

Maul is a can..

Loses his first real challenge to a padawan.

all that time and money invested in training him for what??? to lose his first big go around.

Maul was always a puppet until Palpatine found a better apprentice. he was a lap dog.

After killing a master.

I don't think Sith have "self interest".

To be fair, Palpatine is a fucking can himself. Dude got the fuck PWNT out of him by Mace.
