Thought I'd drop this here. This was at the Sapateiro Invitational in Bradenton FL on Saturday, you know, the one that the SBJ media bot was spam-posting about lol. Anyway, there were several really good matches. Leglocks were aplenty.

Man the Danaher guys are killing it with heel hooks. That inside senkakku escape was really well done by Gordon, and the entry at the end was spectacular.

I can appreciate this match. Good stuff. I especially like the guy in the short sleeves' guard game. Very nice SLX and deep half work.

WTF? Who is Gordon Ryan? Does he train with Garry Tonon and Eddie Cummings? All I know is that I just watched him submit Enrico Cocco...which must mean he's fucking good.

one of tonan's main training partners, made black belt in like 5 years I think

Yea, he's Garry's first Blackbelt. He just won Nogi Worlds by subbing all his opponents save 1, also. He's phenomenal. 20 years old and I've heard some people at renzo's say he's he's more naturally gifted than Tonon or Cummings

Geez, Garry literally walked him through every step of the match like he was teaching a move in class. I'm not saying this to take away from Gordon, I'm sure he knew what to do. My point is that I've never heard someone give such detailed and effective instructions from mat-side.

And his little brother was that 13 year old who subbed all those adults in an advanced division at a local tournament.

Gordon is one of the super talented members of the Danaher death squad. He came up to Toronto once as Tom DeBlass' demo dummy @ a local seminar. He was still a purple at the time and gave amazing detail on heel hook finishing. We all rolled at the end and Gordon just walked through everybody while half asleep. Amazing.

Garry and Danaher promoted him right?

I've heard the same as the bolded. My friend did a seminar with him and my friend said he absolutely was sleepwalking and still mowing through everyone. Within the past year he had a a few matches against one of the best brown belts and competitors that I know and he finished him quickly each time.

Yea Garry and John. I train with Gordon quite often. He's an absolute monster. Real nice guy too. He's gonna be really successful.

His little brother Nicky is also a problem. 14 years old and he beats up on me pretty good (I'm a purple belt).

20 years old??? Got damn!

I love that back triangle he does. I see him do a lot of rolling kimuras to that triangle from the back (not the body triangle) and then either chokes them or rips their arms off. I haven't seen many that look smoother with that back triangle than he does.

He's a freak and should do big things

DeBlass has said he thinks Gordon will be better than Tonon. I want to say Gordon also has plans to do MMA. I know he's been working his hands, etc.

Yeah it's crazy. He was doing that in pretty much every match. I didn't realize Gordon was only 20 though. I got to talk to him and Garry a bit in between the seminar and the tournament. They're both pretty cool from what I could tell. Garry made me crack up. He thanked us all for coming to what could be his last ever seminar due to Palhares-itis.

That entry to the saddle is sweet. Gonna have to try that.

I watched again with headphones on. Just cool as a cucumber. Wow.

That entry to the saddle is sweet. Good have to try that.

Once you start playing with that saddle position a lot, you start seeing it everywhere. I get there a lot from all sorts of position even though I've only ever really drilled the entrance off the knee slide -> back step.

I have a few but the one Eddie does from butterfly I just can't hit live for some reason, despite drilling it a bunch. Just a weird angle.

I do that knee slide>back step as part of a "combo" actually depending on how they react to the back step. Sometimes I'll step back over and stuff the knees into the quarter guard position and either finish the pass or hit the rolling back take. Honestly, I've been pulling into the saddle from there more lately..well because saddle.

Also get to the saddle from side control when they try to turn in to reguard. I love the position and have started looking for it everywhere...like you said, your start to see it everywhere.
