I'm saying both Penn and Anderson looked unbeatable prior to loosing twice to a fighter everybody looked at as a special fighter who could beat them. Both basically from New York/Jersey.
"loosing twice to a fighter everybody looked at as a special fighter who could beat them"
I understand what you are saying, but it is a bad comparison/analogy, because it is simply not true.
When Penn fought Edgar for the 1st time, I remember thinking that it was a pathetic matchup. Penn was an overwhelming favorite, and the only 2 people who really thought Edgar could beat Penn were Frankie and his father!
I couldn't understand why Penn wasn't fighting Maynard. Maynard was undefeated, had already beat Edgar, and was BJ's # 1 pick when he coached TUF. Even after Penn lost the first fight, I thought that the fight was just a fluke, and Penn got sick or something in Abu Dhabi.
