Gone are the days of buying a new game and being to play it right away when you get home.

95% of my gaming Library is digital these days, but I stopped by Gamestop after work today and picked up a couple of physical discs.

So I pop in COD Advanced Warfare and I have to wait for 49gb to copy to my hard drive. So I ate some dinner, took about a 1 hour nap, woke up and figured I'd give it a shot before the hockey game starts. Then there was a 7gb update. I have a good internet connection, but that is still going to take a while.

Now I'm watching the Hockey game and will be going to bed afterwords, so I guess I'll play it tomorrow. I'm not trying to bitch about some petty first world problem here, but the days of buying or renting a game and being able to play it right away when you get home is over.

I blame internet speeds. I want faster damn it! 4G? 5G! No, 6! If that exists.

Lol yeah that would help, but even a disc physically downloading strait to your Hard drive can take up to an hour these days.

You do know that you can buy a game digitally 12am at midnight Tuesday when it releases? You get the games faster, thanks to digitally downloads. Stop acting like a whining little bitch. No offense

I am ok with a minor update, but these massive updates on physically purchased games are just signs of poor design.

I know that as most of my games are digital downloads, but older games are a lot cheaper when you buy the physical copies. What I got for $30 at gamestop today would have cost me $150 if I would have bought digital copies.

Some people don't buy games on release day. It's annoying as fuck when you have to wait for the shit to download, not a major complaint but is a bit of a buzzkill at times. A year ago my buddy came over and brought his ps4. We were just playing Advanced Warfare for a bit then decided to go out and get Dying Light (we had 2 setups) and so we went out and got it but had to wait forever for that shit to download

I dont miss physical copies at all. Last one i bought was at midnight release for WoW's WotLK expansion. Had to wait an hour for the game to install from the CD's to my hard drive.

Havent owned a console since the late 90's. So ive become accustomed to a Pc Games install process from digital downloading it over that of a CD/DVD install.

I had to drive 180 miles round trip at midnight to buy WOTLK.

I like physical copies.

I only have 4 digitals. 3 were free codes and the only payed for one was Forza 6 with the vip and car pass.

I much rather go to the store and buy a physical copy of the game so I can stare at the pretty box and get the joy of removing the wrapper like the old days
Plus buying games is like buying from an ice cream truck, I need to see all the pictures so I can make my choice
Im sure there are some great digital only games I missed out on cause they get lost in the Xbox store clusterfuck
I also like digging through the used games and finding something I missed when it was released and paying 6 bucks for a great game
Sucks that digital games are gonna kill that fun completely

It's a welcome trade-off in my opinion. How many times did your favorite games end up with scratches on the disk and become unplayable/glitchy? I got hooked on Outlaw Golf 2 for the original Xbox and my buddies and I would get hammered and play that game for hours. Even after taking pretty good care of the disc it went bad and over the years I ended up buying at least 3 copies of that game. Same goes for Hitman:Blood Money... games which had high replayability were almost guaranteed to end up with scratches that fucked up everything.

So yeah, it does suck that every game needs a 30GB+/- update, but I think it's absolutely worth it in regards to having a perfect digital copy which will never go bad. Even if your console dies you can still download it again to a new console.... just a much better system in my opinion. Now just make sure you're prepared for a 2 hour or so wait after you buy a game and you'll be good to go.

I still have copies of my PS games that work fine, I've just always taken care of my stuff.

Last gen Sony started with bluray and Microsoft has since followed suit. Those are pretty difficult to scratch up.

Most physical copies don't have those enormous downloads, I'm usually up and running within 30 mins to an hour.

Plus I like actually owning my games. Like with DOOM, I bought the standard edition, then decided I wanted the collector's. I sold my original copy to my brother and made my money back. It's nice to have that freedom.

I love it

Going digital is fantastic because of the plethora of options you get for retailers. I do a lot of my business through Steam, but there are a lot of great thirdy party sellers that still distribute steam keys: humblebundle.com, kinguin.net, etc.

I couldn't imagine paying full price for any game any more. Even new ones offer some digital deal to get around the 40$ mark if I can't wait.

You are correct about Blu-Ray... I was talking more of the past gen. But, as I stated, we were always drunk so maybe I wasn't taking care of the discs as well as I thought. haha You are also correct about being able to sell a physical copy... good point.

Personally I prefer the digital games for convenience, but you have brought up some good arguments for having physical discs.

I'm just a holdout, I like having something tangible.

I see the benefits of digital and the convenience. I had a friend tell me that he ended up not playing a game because he would have to get up and swap discs lol.

I didn't plan on going all digital this gen but not having to get up from the couch and change games is really great. I'll buy a few physical games but I make sure they are few and far between so that I can just leave the game in my PS4 and not have to worry about switching it out.

Ain't it the truth.

To think, I used to get mad at the PS3 mandatory installs. 49 motherfucking gigs? Yeah, you may as well just download the game. The war on physical media is on.

This is exactly the same for me. I probably have about 60 digital games for my Xbox One and only 6 physical discs. Microsoft got me on the digital band wagon once they started doing games with gold on my 360.

Now between EA Access, weekly digital sales, and 4 free games a month physical games are starting to go the way of DVD's. I've been on a call of duty kick lately, because I never played any of them on my 360 until about a month ago. I played them all up until MW2, so I went to Gamestop to pick up MW3 for $6.00 instead of paying $40 for the digital copy. While I was there I bought Ghosts and Advanced Warfare for my X1 for $11 a piece (they are $60 each for the digital copies)

When I'm purchasing a digital game I'm already programed to wait for the download, but seeing as I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 when I pop a game into my console there is something that really pisses me off about having to wait 45 minutes to an hour to play it.
