Golf Thread V3: The Spieth-Easy

I'm trying to score some tickets to the US open, but the only place I can find any is on stubhub and I had a bad experience with them so I'm hesitant.

Does anyone have any experience with Nike irons? I'm just trying to get a list of iron sets that I should try and I have experience with most other brands. I'm a 5 handicap so I'd be looking for more of a 'players' iron.

Not yet, gonna hit a few. I tried some today and I hit the Cleveland 588 MT the best, very forgiving and very long. I also liked the Taylormade SLDR, and I'm going to try out the speedbladez and rocketbladez.

I wish I thought about buying irons 3 weeks ago, because I can get anything Titleist for 50% off but I'm leaving for summer.

Cleveland makes pretty good clubs. Mine are an old set of ta5s and I still really like them. The only thing is that there game improvement irons, for mid to high handicaps, tend to have a very thick top line, which is an issue for some.

Speedbladez are apparently very straight and very easy to hit high. They're also very long, but that is because they have strong lofts. A speedbladez 7 iron is 26.5 where as a 6 iron from most other clubs is a 26.

edit: I think it was the 7 can't remember exactly.

Speedbladez are probably my next iron set if I can find a cheap set next spring, along with Jetspeed woods. I have all Burner 2.0 stuff now and I think I have another season left in them.

The only downside I've heard about them is that it is difficult to shape the ball. But if they're as straight as they claim it might be a moot point.

Yeah my Burners are like that, most cavity backs are. I can shape it both ways decently up until about 7 iron and then it starts to get away from me. I tend to just try and hit it straight but a little more shaping capability would be nice with the long irons.

Anyone had any experience the x2 hot by calloway?

I tried one of the drivers last year, never hit the irons. The driver was very, very long. It was also very hard to control.

I play a Titleist 910 and I hit it quite well and x2 hot was considerably longer when I hit it pure. The ball comes off the face very fast.

Yeah the reviews have said it's super long. Figured I could probably get a decent price considering the XR set just came out

Got it down to the Cobra Bio Cells, Nike VRS forged, or the Nike VRS Covert 2.0

I love match play events.

One of my friends plays bio cells and I've hit them a few times they're pretty nice. They launch the ball very high, very easily. I hit the seven iron as high as I hit the pw for my clubs.

Yes they do, very forgiving and they come with a 3H and 4H for the same price as the other two Nike sets which are GW-4. Decisions, decisions.

Personally I think the VRS covert 2.0 look the best

Got damn

This new match play format is interesting, I still haven't quite figured it out. Course looks kind of boring though compared to Dove Mountain.

These things are super forgiving, and sound great. My dad called them gay because they have white grips though

If those are the same grips that come on the new vapour drivers they're pretty nice. They're nice and tacky when dry, not sure how good they'd be when it's raining though.

Yeah they are super tacky and gave me a lot more confidence than my old ass 90's mizuno grips.

only ten miles away.

heading over there this weekend to catch the action.

course looks great.
