To me the reluctance of governments, including my own, to invest in the healthcare system and to incentivize living a healthier lifestyle is the biggest screw up. We're sitting on 9 billion dollars worth of vaccines but no money was invested in a long term solution to caring for people. I know this is the same in the UK. We opted for a bandaid and ignored setting up people and systems for success.
The thing with government transparency is that it typically comes about one tiny drop at a time. There's still undisclosed documents surrounding 9/11. Until very recently, to provide a contrast, the Soviet Space Program had an unblemished record. No lives lost, nothing exploded, it was perfectly executed without any failures.
All in all I'd prefer the slow approach instead of full disclosure overnight. We all have lessons to learn from this and I doubt anyone would be interested in gaining understanding if a pound of flesh can be had instead. We gotta try to move on without making shit worse. Easier said for me than many others, but I'd prefer de-escalation.
